Yes.... There's an LOA in the back.

LAX for now, and foreseeable future.

It was also mentioned here that the home CBT study time may be shortened to 2 weeks. I'm curious if we get any heads up on that from the company or we should expect a short notice on the orientation day. Any info is appropriated. Thanks!

They said classes every week. New hires in each class staggers weekly in a 4 then 6 then 4 then 6 sequence September through October. In November it moves to weekly classes of 10. I think its a 14 day CBT starting December.

Exactly. So, I take it there has been no mention of any details on it yet? Is LAX reserve a 2 hour call out for right now?

Thanks.

Yes, just like all the other bases.

Maingear 08-31-2014 06:10 AM

How long are new hires sitting reserve in LAX?

typical41 08-31-2014 07:45 AM

The contract says that the company can make 0% of the lines as long call reserve lines. All they have to do is schedule a meeting with the union, and bs then for a few minutes.

And it has been scheduled, flew with a guy from the union who said that they were getting ready to meet with the company to start to discuss this as well as a few other issues

It's just about 1 month for everyone - maybe 2 at the most if you're the most junior in your class.

I had one month of reserve and then lines with 90+ hours.

Thanks. I can't wait. Pretty excited for class. :D

How long to get dtw base

I was wondering if I'm hired and sent to lax how long it would take me to get dtw as a base. Also any word on them closing dtw or downsizing it?

Thanks

Where have most of the new hires been doing their sims? I'm debating about bringing my car to MSP if I'm going to end up sent somewhere else.

Also I assume a hotel room is paid for if you go somewhere else for sims? Is it shared rooms? How about per diem?

What's the timeline from orientation to IOE?

I was told 5-8 weeks after the month of home study, that's quite the range. Is there much of a backlog with check pilots or instructors?

Hotel IS paid for if sims done outside of MSP. Some new-hires for sure will be doing SIMS in STL, so hope for that if you don't live in MSP. Pretty certain it would be single occupancy hotel room, but not positive. Per Diem also will be paid out during any training outside of MSP.

From the 1-day orientation until completion of last SIM event is around 2.5 months (Includes the homestudy). Expect a lengthy wait (not even going to guess) for IOE. This will be do to the amount of available check airmen. You have to get a minimum of 25 hours of IOE.

Per diem just for the footprint of the training event or for the entire time you're on company business outside of MSP?

How long are people waiting now? Are they doing IOE out of LAX or wherever they have check airmen?

Is there a shortage of FOs? Is the company paying premium pay for open time?

Please pardon the really dumb question, but I read that as saying that Compass has 295 captains and only 203 FOs (295+203=498.)

Would you not normally have an identical number of FOs and captains, or are the additional ~92 captains all training captains?

It is now 275 and 478 because 20 people left last week for Delta. We still have 20 more leaving next month. The numbers are slightly inflated because of the flow throughs not leaving right away. There are still 150-160 people that will flow next year as well, so the hiring and upgrading is growth AND high attrition off the top.

Not really a shortage of FOs, and no.

Per Diem (1.65/hr) is paid the ENTIRE time you are away from MSP on company business

Like stated above, there is not a shortage of FO's currently. not very often is premium pay being offered for FO's.

Almost all the IOE is being done out of MSP, every so often you will get some IOE out of either LAX or DTW

Currently 479 pilots, 20 more leave in early October to Delta.
151 flow eligible pilots remain for 2015. Probably only 145 or so will take the flow. Attrition to other airlines is also a factor for compass. People going to American, United, and Alaska as of this month.

Will need to hire around 220 pilots for the American flying they are forcing on us, around 145 more for next year's flows, and probably around 30 more of any other attrition within our pilot group.

I have heard that there are only about 16 new hires in September, approx. 24 in October, then it picks up to like 40 in November. I'm sure that can change, but that is what I have heard. No word on Upgrades, I am sure the company will hold off as long as they can. Why upgrade sooner and allow the higher paid flow pilots to leave for Delta, when we can hold the flows back for 90 days, pay them a lot more money, and even further understaff the Captain positions? It all makes sense now.

The American flying is expected to be out of LAX. No word as of late on our Delta bases for Compass. As of now, I would expect MSP, LAX, and DTW to all be around next year, but who knows. That is where we stand. Hopefully that answers some questions.

Sorry I'm asking so many questions, but where else have they been doing sim training? Can you bid for it?

Msp or ST is all I know of. Bidding is by seniority in class, sorted by date of birth.

Yes. New-hires go to MSP for sim.

Flying J 09-07-2014 08:55 AM

New hires are going to msp sim. You'll bid on your time slot by seniority. I don't believe location will change considering how cheap TSH is for the hotels, but hey, you can always hope.

typical41 09-07-2014 10:54 AM

Most new hires will train for Sims in MSP, but when they get to 40 a month new hires, they will be forced to put some new hires in Stl.

I'm hearing any additional sim time for the American flying will be in STL. If that is true, I would imagine some new hires would be sent down to STL for training. At least they would get a hotel and per diem then.

Has anyone heard when we will begin upgrading again? It's been VERY quiet lately.

Gotta get a surplus of new FOs trained first... There should be a couple classes soon.

I heard from a couple guys that we'll start upgrading 6 a WEEK in November. I don't know how true that is-- these are LA rumors. We're a totally different company out here. :D:D

Not in Nov. Eventually in the not too distant future it will be just like last year, but more.

What's the most junior DOH these days?

Is it still looking like the new AA flying will be LAX based?

Thanks how about CA

On the interview, the cognitive test, is there anything one can do to prepare prior?

People say lumosity helps but others say it doesn't...

MSP CA = June 23, 2011
LAX CA = June 28, 2012
DTW CA = March 24, 2011

There are a only a handful of numbers between the current most junior captain, and Fall 2013 DOH pilots. The junior CA DOH should drop to Fall of 2013 in the next few Captain vacancies.
