It's going to be like not getting paid for three months, unfortunately.

1 week indoc, 1 week systems, 2 weeks procedures, 2 weeks sim. Or something like that.

Got the interview scheduled for Feb 3. Anyone else that day?

Hey guys got a call from compass to interview. Told them I wasn't interested at this time but I'm beginning to reconsider. Looking for some advice. I'm currently at Xjt (crj side) in DFW. Been there 1 yr 3 mo (1950 TT, 700 me). I commute out of GRK so DFW base is nice but I'm not so sure Xjts future is all too bright. At Compass I'm thinking there will be a lot of movement with flows and possible lax base which is enticing me to reconsider what I told them. I'm originally from SoCal and have been wanting to get back since left HS to join the Army. Friends and family are mostly all there but I live in tx cause it was cheap to live and I could afford flight training when I got out of the military. Other than I could care less where I'm currently living. I'm married but no kids. Wife is mostly supportive but is hesitant with cost of living in CA. Just looking for some thoughts to make an informed decision. I really don't know much about compass other than they are owned by TSH. How is the mgmnt /labor atmosphere there? Thanks

I could be way wrong, but I remember reading that if you turned down a class date or interview offer you are SOL for a second time. But again, I'm not 100%.

Sounds like lot's of movement, and that LAX is going really junior.

That's not true 100%, I know of someone who was able to get one after turning down an interview. Took alot of convincing though, don't think everyone could pull it off but worth a shot!

I came from Comair and it is night and day. At Comair there was just a pure hatred on each side of the fence toward the other. While i will say the attitude toward management (MW specifically) has taken a slight turn south since TSH took over, it is still better than I ever experienced at Comair. The majority of the pilots here are happy to be here and it really shows in the day to day line pilot life. Not that this is a career job by any stretch but there are plenty of worse places to be at right now. This is more of a refugee camp for furloughees and pilots from defunct airlines. Everyone is here to get there time and move on and with all of the movement, everyone is pretty happy. Ive been here almost 4 years and don't really have any complaints.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, that's a pretty good description. Even the hate for MW is mostly for fun ever since he backed down from the seniority dispute... I learn so many hilarious factoids about him and his predilections for goats & llamas every day...

The fact is that the chief pilots have steadily improved since I came here over 6 yrs ago. We now have three of the best I've worked under, that helps morale a lot. So does the fact that pretty much everyone who works here has a lot of friends in far worse positions. People still biatch but it's mostly the people who enjoy biatching because...well...what else are you gonna do on a 4 hour cruise to YVR :).

Deice Press 01-17-2014 05:34 PM

"MW teabagged your crew meal" is by far my favorite from the collection.

mike51135 01-17-2014 06:00 PM

MW having sex with gay giraffes is my personal favorite.

I don't think Compass is having any issues finding pilots. Most class are at least 50% ex-121 is not more. Last class was 8/10.

Now those airlines might be feeling the effects. Idk. :o

flyguy94 01-19-2014 11:17 AM

Anymore talk of an SEA base? Keep getting tempted to throw in an app, SEA would push me over the edge.

wayway8 01-19-2014 01:36 PM

Chief pilot came in during orientation on 1/16. I got the impressions the next base would be SFO or SLC.

Said one project was electronic Jepps this year.

We've been hearing that since 2008, maybe this is the year

+1. Same here.

Highly, highly doubtful it will happen. The 170s don't even have a EFB to begin with and would take some serious modification to get some sort of charging station in them. Don't think this is a very high priority for them. We have a better chance of getting ship sets before electronic charts.

BlueMoon 01-19-2014 06:32 PM

Latest rumor was a tablet for each pilot, it was briefly mentioned in one of those all company meetings. I would say it isn't happening anytime soon.

He gave our class the impression last week that SEA or SLC would be more likely because the costs of another California base are higher.

As long as it isn't the ipad 2 with Jepp FD pro. The app is too large for the ipad and requires too much memory. Crashes quite often. But then again I am using my own personal ipad. Perhaps if that was the only app on it, it would run more reliably.

I have an ipad two and use the jepp fd pro, it crashes, but not as much as being alluded to. Maybe once a week or so

Well after doing some thinking I called back and got phone screened and setup for interview possibly on the 11th of feb cause one guy is having traveling issues. They seemed happy I called back. If not the 25th is set in stone but recruiter told me let him know if I could do sooner once I have my final feb schedule. This will be a huge sacrifice for me to get a west coast base if I get thru with it....but I'm looking forward to it. Can anyone pm me a link to the new contract?

Glad to hear it! Unfortunately contract isn't completely written yet. PM with questions if need be!

Does anyone happen to have a recent route map for CZ? Looks like the most recent one I was able to come across is about 2 years old. Curious if it has changed much with the focus shifting west a little bit. Thanks!

There's still a bit out east, but more out of SLC now. LAX also gets flights to the Montana cities, SFO, SEA, MCI and SLC during various parts of the week. Seems like the trend west continues.

Do u guys get cancellation pay? What's everyone's morale like? Is the pay scale on APC accurate? Thanks guys..

You are pay protected for your trip credit. So if you get a cancelation you are covered but you wouldn't get any overage on other legs you flew.

Morale pretty good which is expected since we will probably lose 25% off the top of the seniority list for the next three years.

We will get a 1.25% raise soon. I don't think that is reflected in the pay rate section of APC.

Do they allow trip drops if rsv coverage allows or reserve day drops?

MrMustache 01-25-2014 06:46 AM

Yes but it can drop your guarantee

Another realistic issue to deal with is that reserve days here are almost always at or below reserve coverage so your chances of doing this is very low. Most likely all you would be able to do is drop a turn at the beginning or end of a trip if you are a line holder.

PropDriver 01-25-2014 07:58 AM

You cannot drop a reserve day if you hold a reserve line. However, you can swap days around. I believe you can drop a reserve day if you hold a build up line.

Since when? I used to drop reserve days on reserve when they were green. Unless this is a new practice I don't think this is correct.
