Who had the more challenging interview?

The Delta Knowledge Test was the most challenging part in either interview. Skywest was more challenging I think overall.

wayway8 01-28-2014 02:07 PM

Skywest interview more difficult, Compass testing more difficult. Overall I'd say Compass was more difficult because of the knowledge test and required more prep.

Frick 01-28-2014 05:24 PM

Do they send you study material for the delta test if you get an interview or is there something else that's also helpful? And also...how commutable are the trips?

You get a study guide but it's really only broad topics. They reference some literature in it as well.

Omnivorous 01-29-2014 05:31 AM

Google "Delta Pilot Interview" and grab the PDF that pops up. That will give you a good indication of the types of questions you'll be dealing with during the Job Knowledge Test. Otherwise thumb through Everything Explained for the Professional Pilot on your commute and you'll be good to go. The guidance Compass provides for the test is pretty meager.

Any clue how many CP guys live in Ann Arbor and drive to DTW?

Several - its a good city within a short drive to DTW. Probably a lot more fun than Romulus.

Lou Reed 01-29-2014 09:11 AM

With plenty of hotties to help you forget about the FAs you'll be working with

At least two plus one commuter who has a crashpad there.

If you get stuck in DTW make sure you get a car there and rent a place in Ann Arbor, don't stay in in Romulus or Taylor, it will pay off in dividends.

wayway8 01-29-2014 09:46 PM

Ann Arbor is a fantastic town.

I lived in Ann Arbor for two years with Compass... Crazy I've been gone for three years now, I miss that place! Go to Big10 Burritos and get your burrito with the Jalapeño sauce! And Ashley's is the place to go for a beer. Now it's time for me to take on LAX, I may be the only guy at Compass to take on all 4 bases! Big10 and Bells need to start distributing on the Best Coast ASAP!

E2CMaster 01-30-2014 01:21 AM

I used to live in Inkster and work in Romulus.

DO. NOT. STAY. THERE.

Newbie Compass pilot here. Interview yesterday was a success. First airline interview. Seems like a great regional to be at. Interview process was very professional and everyone was friendly. Overall a great experience. It's my first 121 job, so hopefully I can keep up through training. Does anyone have any good advice on where to live and possibly public transportation during training? Not sure what base I'll be at, but hoping to be in LA since I live in Las Vegas. But I'd be happy with any of them.

Congratulations on getting an offer! See if you can hook up with other people in your class and split a hotel room for the days you need to be at the training center- some have shuttles to Pan Am for you. The training program is definitely geared for those with prior 121 as I'm sure you have heard. It's totally doable, but you'll be forced to study harder than others in your class unfortunately. If you have any questions feel free to PM me- I just hit the line and would be glad to help.

Thanks, I truly appreciate that. And yeah that's what I've heard. If you don't mind me asking, where are you based? I'm hoping to get LA shortly after training, but at the same time, cost of living there is crazy expensive.

MSP. New hires are all getting LAX it looks like.

Phuz 01-30-2014 11:10 AM

Lax wont be a problem for a new hire.

Peak13 01-30-2014 11:39 AM

How do they determine seniority in a new hire class? Age? Last 4 of ss?

Age.

BLAM.

Currently scheduled to interview with Compass, thinking about leaving Envoy/Eagle. I've been on reserve here for two years. How long can I expect to be on reserve at Compass, if I stay at LAX?

Not long, they indicated to me that by next year you'd already have quite a few people junior to you. I'm an Eagle pilot and I say jump, the only reason I didn't accept the offer was because I couldn't afford the move.

Eagle is done, yes or no on this vote it doesn't matter.

wayway8 01-30-2014 04:43 PM

I left Eagle for Compass. I felt that unless you are currently an Eagle line holder, the wait to get off reserve was 2+ years in DFW and might increase due to shrinkage.

Minimal time (if any) with all of the hiring & movement going on.

Not to mention your upgrade at Compass will be much quicker. You really don't have anything to lose.

Congrats for getting the offer....

You say you are not prior 121, so Would you mind sharing your profile/ flight times, just to get a pulse on what is the current trend..

Flightsoffusion 01-30-2014 08:19 PM

Recieved an email inviting me to interview. Would like to accept but i'm a little concerned about my lack of recent experience. I am heavy on helicopter time(8500) but light on fixed wing(800) I have no 121 or 135 fixed wing time although I do have an unrestricted multi-ATP with a CE500 type. In fact I haven't flown 10 hours in the last six months other than Xplane stuff. What do you think? Will I be embarrassing myself by accepting an interview? It would be outstanding if I was able to hold LAX because I reside in SAN. Thanks much for any quality advice.

Go try your luck for a free ipad first.

J/k hah. Doesn't sound like you have anything to lose, might as well go for it!

Thanks, no I don't mind. 3200TT. 560 multi turbine pic. All of which was in a twin otter part 135. Lots of flight instructor, dual given time. And a college degree. I think that sums it up. Oh and no internal recs

They wouldn't have made you an offer if they didn't think you could make it through training. The written testing is designed to be an indicator of that. If you apply yourself and work hard you will make it though without a problem. They don't expect you to build the airplane from scratch, know the limitations, know the flows, profiles, procedures, and know how the systems interact and what you can do do affect them from the flight deck...

Gone are the days of listing every component on ever electrical bus, and listing the components on each hydraulic system.

Welcome aboard!

Anyone knows of the available class dates in Feb or Mar? and is it still taking 3 months to make it to the line?

LAX base lines are going for how many hours for new hires? over 75 or are they on short time reserve because of the flow to delta and street hires to other majors?
