This is my point. Compass is a great place to work but will you be able to put food on the table and commute and live in NYC, DTW MSP or anyplace else? You are looking at 20K a year. I say get a job with whatever your degree is in or another field, sit out for a while and then return when the pilot shortage happens in 7 to 10 years. Myself, unfortunately I am too old to wait that long. Back to the police car I go.......Good luck to you.

As far as working for Compass. I thought it was a great job, nice but not great aircraft, ok overnights, great co-workers but absolutly horrible pay. When I got in I was excited that in less than 24 months I would be a Captain and then I could bypass the flow and have super senority. I soon realized it was going to be much longer than 24 months to upgrade due to the lack of flow to Delta. I was holding out hope for a while that Compass would expand into other liveries but in talking with MGT it doesn't seem like that will happen. Like I said, great people to work with, very experienced pilot group but the pay is just unbearable. I went to another airline, got furloughed and now am out of aviation all together. Good luck in your search! One more thing, there are a lot of jerkoffs at NWA/DAL who will treat you like crap when you try to jumpseat.
Pardon my ignorance, I guess that I am just a jerkoff, but wouldn't attrition be slow at any place that was good to work it? If a place is a good place to work why would it have high attrition?

Scoop - Failing jerkoff who is accommodating to all jumpseaters.

As a Compass pilot I can see where Maxjet is comming from regarding the Jumpseat. I live in base but jumpseat from time to time and the attitude from old NWA pilots is pretty bad. I had one guy tell me that I was taking his job away. (Nevermind the fact that they voted for CPZ to exsist). I see a 50/50 attitude from that group. The part I differ from his is old Delta guys have been nothing but great for me jumpseating. I have never had problems with them. In fact most ask questions and are interested in the airplane and flow.

That's just the attitude. If that NWA capt was furloughed and had to flow back to Compass he would in a second and then that would cost someone else their job. It's too funny the positions that pilots have on things and then are the first ones in line to contradict themselves. I've got to stop reading these forums.

Unfortunately for most now, paying your dues is at least 5-6 years (or much longer) at a regional instead of the 2-3 it used to be. It would be nice to new CPLs actually building time (as instructors, military, traffic watch, banners etc..) instead of running right to the first $21/hr regional that will hire them.

Just apply. No one on this board is in charge of hiring at Compass. The people who are in charge will be hiring quite a few people and have a huuuuge pool of applicants to choose from. I'm guessing they won't be using the same criteria for hiring that they have in the past. My opinion.

Granted, it may come with a restriction, but it can still be obtained. But any restriction would easily be lifted when the pilot upgrades and would be more paperwork than anything.
Maybe a type in a 172. The regs state you have to hold an ATP to act as PIC in any turbojet aircraft or aircraft weighing more than 12500Lbs. As far as I can remember. I could be wrong as I don't have the regs on hand, but it's pretty much common sense. I doubt the world will ever get that desperate to lift such a reg so a 21 Y/O could act as captain. There is a reason for that age thing.

No one wants a guy commanding their aircraft while eating dunkaroos, drinking out of a sippy cup and can't even grow a mustache.
