That's what we're going to have to do, but that's in fact worse than going Flaps 4. If you forget that you're transitioning to Flaps Full then you won't get a flaps warning since it is a normal landing setting. Plus you probably won't catch it in the landing check since it's so natural to just say, "Flaps 5 Set". Then you'll end up either skidding off the end of the runway, or approaching at too slow a speed for the flaps setting. Or you'll notice it below 1000' and have to go around. The only save would be that you see your approach green dot is well above the Vap speed.
Plus I remember in training that using Flaps 5 in transition was frowned upon for these very reasons. They always told us to transition with Flaps 4.

This is another one of those "compass issues." I've been flying this airplane for 5 years and I can count on ZERO fingers the number of times I've HAD to use flaps 4 during landing, and maybe have done it twice, just for grins and tickles. I also don't recall anyone in training telling me to use flaps 4 in a transition to full.
Guys, seriously, if this is causing you strife you need to chew on a Tums and lighten up.

So, two highly trained professionals who fail to read a checklist and configure the plane properly is grounds for a diversion?

You know we all have been getting these procedure changes lately... I have an AOM revision I would like to submit
PF commands
"flaps 5, set Vap, landing check"
PM selects flaps 5, sets Vap and responds with:
"shake and bake!"

You mean a guy who can land the airplane well within it's limits? Sure, i guess. More than that, though, I am the kind of guy who isn't going to divert somewhere because I can't remember to say "gear down, flaps 5...flaps full, landing check."

Lol...the only time I've used flaps full in this plane was Key West and it wasn't even required. So comical.

Flaps Full is not really needed for the airports that Compass flies to. The only time I could see Flaps Full here being needed is if you want to get off 25L at Golf.
The plane was designed that if you want Flaps Full, you're supposed to go to Flaps 5, not Flaps 4. In Flaps 4, there won't be a gear up warning (as someone mentioned earlier). In their wisdom, Embraer decided that "landing with the gear up" is worse than "landing with flaps warning". Some long gone CKA or non-SLIP instructor probably made up the Flaps 4 thing, and most of us just follow it blindly now.

A good landing is not necessarily a soft landing.
