It's nice that this thread has gotten back to the way it way a year ago.

As trivial and childish as all this may sound, I don't wear my hat as a sign of protest. And only because it's not a safety issue, and it's not a regulatory issue.

I know that our managements first priority lies with our codeshare partners, and I understand that. If they didn't award us contracts, we wouldn't have a reason to exist. That being said, in fulfilling our obligations to those codeshare partners, our leadership has managed to ******* on the pilot group.

It was our leadership that didn't look at the numbers and realize how many pilots are actually leaving.

It was our leadership that decided to stop hiring.

It was our leadership that decided we don't deserve the vacation we earned and bid for.

And it will be our leadership that gets to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with their families while most of us are out flying or sitting reserve away from our families and loved ones.

So if/when you get called out and disciplined for the hat, will that be your excuse to management? Sounds like a pretty lame excuse to not follow the fom uniform policy. A better one would be, "my hat is ripped, lost or stolen"

This was about two weeks ago and I'm pretty sure he had been a captain for awhile. Again I probably just misunderstood.

Good rant...couldn't agree more! However, that's up to you, and frankly I'm not bothered at all by people who don't wear the damned hat (hitherto referred to as the DH). I take issue with people who assume I am a kool-aid drinking tool for wearing said DH.

also, like said above, if you get called into the CP's office because you aren't wearing the DH I expect you to take it quietly and not bemoan this forum with cries of injustice. Deal?

You missed the point chief. The post I quoted stated that guys aren't getting the call because they have bad attitudes or they don't do the extra things. My point was that delta et al has no way of knowing this by looking at a resume or an application when they pull it and they are not pulling CVR's or ramp videos to find out so his premise is false. I know plenty of deadbeats who did the barebones minimum and have moved up by bull crapping their way through the interview. As far as being taken advantage of, if you think by doing the same exact job as mainline and being paid pennies on the dollar is not being taken advantage of, well I can't help you. The regional sector should never ever be thought of as a stepping stone. We are all professional aviators and should be compensated as such.

I must have been taxiing by you the other day because I gave a very enthusiastic Compass wave and it was returned. I only had one Compass crew give me the thousand yard stare. Must have been ex-OO guys? Sorry word302. Tell your peeps to wave more!

I think only our handful of mormon guys say that...seriously I just roll my eyes when there is no fed or LCA in the JS...I also make up excuses of why I can't go out to dinner/beers with said person. Those guys are gonna have a funny wake up when they eventually pass an interview at the majors and the 60+ dinosaur starts talking about his 3 boats as soon as they start taxiing forward. Pointed out Janet on a long LAS taxi...guys looks at me and says sterile. I'm just like well eff me too. Long 4 day. Point is, guys who follow the rules to the T are buzz kills. Yes sterile if we are shooting a CAT II down to mins but leisurely convo on the taxi out? You bet. Stop making this job harder than it has to be. *End Rant*

I do the sterile thing just because otherwise I know I'll get out of the habit and forget to do it when a fed's on board and end up on the Chief's quarterly list (and honestly how hard it is to just say "Sterile, approach check.") Its like writing down a taxi clearance in Seattle or having the taxi chart open. I'm 99.9999999% sure I know how to get from spot 99 to the end of 16L in SEA without getting lost but I still do it because I don't want to be the guy that gets caught having forgot to pull it up.

None of these things are hard. They may be stupid and unnecessary but they're not hard. But build up a habit pattern of NOT doing them, and when the Fed is on board, there's a much greater chance of you forgetting.

Still waiting to get called in after 2.5 years.... Like I said, not a safety issue, not a regulatory issue. When the company follows the contract they signed, I'll wear my hat.
