What is the best company to fly corporate for
#2
Odds are VERY good that the "best company to fly corporate for" is one you haven't ever heard of.
Part 91 compensation ranges from 121 regional FO pay to that of the most senior SWA/FDX/UPS captains, and tends to vary largely on aircraft type (Gulfstreams pay more than King Airs) and geographic location (ie. NYC pays more than Indianapolis).
On the whole, the average legacy airline pilot would probably earn more over a 20+ year career than the average corporate pilot. I'd say the average corporate pilot would have a vastly superior quality of life over that same time, with fewer weekends and holidays worked.

F/O pay is less than the majors, but if you add on the benefits that these top flight departments give you, it pretty much evens out at the end or at least closes the gap.
Same for Captains, your salary is gonna be around $180K or so, if you tag on the bennies, it'll be around $200K
I've heard nothing but good things about:
United Technologies, Exxon Mobil, State Farm, American Express, John Deere, Nike and the 3M company....
Getting one of these jobs is probably harder than getting on with DL, UA or SW, and in the case of United Technologies, I'm sure it is.. Supposely that's the top corporate job around

Some places you'll be hired right in as PIC, others you'll be a "co captain" but have no real captain responsibilities, others you'll be an FO for a set period of time, others will depend on the needs of the operation, and for others you'll upgrade to PIC when somebody with more longevity leaves/retires/dies.
Having gone from RJ FO to corporate SIC to corporate PIC to corporate CP, the only thing bizav flying has in common with airline flying is driving an airplane Point A to B - literally everything else is different.

Our mob has you as F/O until ready to upgrade, we do have some special requirements, but most guys are full-up captains in 2-3 years and fly and paid as such. Right now, only 3 out of 21 are not captains in, a least, one type. We normally fly 2 types.
BoilerUp is quite correct--no part of corporate is like th airlines with the possible exception of flying A to B.

So if I understand it correctly, when these top-job corporate flight departments have a job opening, they don't advertise it? In other words, I'm used to seeing UAL, DAL or (whatever airline) announcing they are opening up the hiring window, at which point several thousand apps flow in. If these corporate departments don't do that, how do folks even know they're hiring and how does that give pilots looking for a job an equal opportunity? It sounds like it's all hush-hush, wink, grin, you're hired, leaving out a ton of otherwise qualified pilots. No wonder it's hard getting a good corporate job!
Wouldn't it make more sense for a top notch (or anyone, for that matter) corporate department announce they have an opening or two, to give everyone a fair shot?
