If the FAA and Gulfstream decide that the G-450/G550 type will be the same as the G-500/600 + "differences training", I'd die a happy man.
(But I highly doubt it). My guess, the G-500/600 and 650 will be the same... The G-450/550 will be a thing of the past. Again, that's my guess

Some folks I work with were in SAV today for the unveiling.
Great praises on the plane. New cockpit/avionics with touch screens.
Side stick controls.....not sure is I can ever like that fact.
Gonna be another great bird for Gulfstream.

Why didn't Gulfstream stick to the yoke for this generation?
I know that had Gulfstream known that common type rating between G550 and G650 was not going to happen, they would have put sidesticks on the G650 too... But the G650 has a yoke now...

GIV type covers the G4; the GV type covers the classic G5, 350/450/550; the GVI type covers the G650. Although it hasn't been officially announced I am sure the G500 and G600 will have their own type rating. There are too many differences i.e. touch screen control, side sticks to be included in the GVI type rating.

From an ergonomics and SA point of view it looks great. Integrated flight controls that move together, trims like most other aircraft and fly-by-wire and its a stick. IMO we don't need to have a yoke any more, it's nearly 2015. Seems like a good combination of modern tech crossed with tried and true principles of human factors and cognition.
