Global Express jobs - Texas
#1
Hello -
Newbie just looking for Global Express operations or current pilots to talk to about QOL. Trying to decide if 121 work or Global Express job is a better deal for my situation.
Please reply via PM.
** Not looking for employment, just researching an opportunity to see if getting the type rating via USAF channels is worth the hassle.
Thanks.

I was giving one of them a ration just the other day for complaining and I reminded him that the USAF had given him the opportunity to get three marketable type ratings during his time.
Will it be worth it? Who can guess - but you'd be marketable than I with that type rating for Global job!

As far as immediate corporate value, it's definitely worthwhile....same with a Gulfstream type. I really doubt it means anything to any airline though.
Even if you want to go the Southwest route, the 737 type isn't necessary until you get hired. And then you can do it for relatively cheap and quickly...definitely vs Gulfstream/Global.
As for Global work vs 121, it's been talked about adnauseam around here.

I agree with Wollac...then again we flew the BACN together. If you are considering the "hassle" of getting the type, may I suggest you drop that option and take a 6-month ground pounder job at either Kandahar or Bagram, then you would really and quickly appreciate such an opportunity to deal with said "hassle"
Oh, and this is from a recently retired 0-5 who did 2 such ground pounder deployments before being fortunate enough to have that "hassle" of getting the Global type and flying the BACN mission. Just saying...
. And I'll gladly answer any questions as well, if you are interested in hearing blunt truth.

All depends on the gig. I am familiar with the option that you are presented with. 2 of my friends were given the same option over 3 years ago. I can also tell you one of the guys is flying for a super department out of MDW, the other couldn't find a job, and is now at AA via Atlas. Global jobs can range from 150 hours a year to over 600 with very little time @ home. Its a crap shoot, much like ANY job. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
