What are the odds that we survive this

It's really not that difficult, and was explained pretty well. Republicans used to be liberal, progressive, and the party of a large government. Nothing that they support now. So when somebody says "Lincoln was a Republican," he almost certainly would not identify with today's Republican Party, because they embody absolutely zero ideals that he stood for.

There’s a plan. It’s pretty good IMO. Stay home till end of April if your not essential. After that it’s soft openings that are state dependent implemented by the governors. Using common sense. I.e. social distance when able, no large crowds, and no hand shakes. This whole time implementing massive testing. Can we at least get past April without arguing politics? Both sides need to be putting forth thier best ideas then implementing them ASAP.

The flaw in the argument that we should have just let the virus just run it’s course is nobody will ever know how that would have played out? If the majority of the population became sick in roughly the same period of time the economy would have tanked anyhow. We do know that. I’ll bet you it would have topped 140,000 deaths had we done nothing. Fortunately we’ll never know.
I don’t get this false choice either. It’s like the world must be one way or the other. This is an absolute false choice and we should call BS on those asserting it as an option.
Passenger counts dropped off, the NBA closed, casinos closed, all happened BEFORE any politician acted.
If even those private actors hadn’t acted, as soon as people started dropping in larger numbers, or getting turned away at hospitals, and when more cities looked like Italy or NY, there is no way John Q Public was going to “keep on keeping on”. And who knows how long THAT recovery would take?
We elected and empowered leaders for a reason. Many people didn’t want to enter WWII, either, and were inconvenienced by their businesses being taken over by the government or the war ending the lives of them or loved ones. The remedy is to vote in other people who will manage the crisis better, not convince ourselves we are smarter than experts empowered in the system under which we agreed to be governed.
This is like whining about the rules in the Super Bowl. Petition the commissioner, appeal, or cry to the media, but do it AFTER THE GAME.
Suck it up, we are all in it together and we will all get through it together.

Experts must always be subject to scrutiny, because in spite of the title "expert," they are fallible. Experts are experts, by definition, in a very specific field of study. They are useful for that precise purpose, beyond that they must be balanced with wider perspective.
The answer is not only elections either. US policy has been moved many times by 1st amendment demonstration and protest. It's part of who we are as a nation, body and soul, for better of worse.
Blind obedience is stupidity.

I don’t expect you to be enlightened, there needs to be both a lamp and power for light. You seem to have shut down both.
Reason and science will prevail, panic and emotion knee-jerking will not. Like the Salem witch-trial prosecutors and Inquisition fans, your brand of stupid eventually loses. ALWAYS.

Don't panic but your about to get furloughed. That’s funny. Who’s the one panicking again? We knew the mortality rate would decrease once we actually started testing. We knew that well over a month ago. This is good news, we can start to open up again. What’s the problem? If your argument is we should have never shut anything down I’ll just have to disagree. No problem.

Its not panic if its the obvious result. Im at 50% so I may or may not get furloughed. Thanks for responding. Anything else?
