as I stated in earlier posts, I am not sure what, if anything, a President can do for private industry during a Continuing Resolution ("CR"). CR's are intended to keep government ops running until the official fiscal year budget is approved by Congress. Most agencies have various directives and edicts that the only permitted things are mission essential/critical ops, and no new operations or activities can be "launched" during a CR. This varies between agency to agency, but that is the general way of doing business under a CR.
He can tweet what he wants, and claim we have money to do it, but he is akin to that rich jet owner telling his buddies lets go to Aspen tonight ! Sure, we can leave now. However upon talking to the pilots, NOTAMS exist and night ops are prohibited at the airport, and, well, no, we really can't go tonight.
my 2 cents
Good Luck to everyone. when the PSP money transfer from Treasury over to the airline's bank account happens, then I will believe it happened.

It was a pretty clear tweet to me with no translation needed. There is unused money in the cares 1 bucket that I want to use for PSP and airline support but I need the house (the Democrats since they are in the majority) to pass some legislation for it to be used for those purposes and I will sign it immediately.
Fairly straight forward request that the House has chosen to ignore.

“Additional subsidies unlikely to help workers”. That’s flat out wrong.

It won’t help them in the long run or for long term job security if it dramatically delays the recovery. Continual demand for financial support and welfare just means the airlines are surviving on subsidies and not correcting or right-sizing for the future. Another $100 in your pocket now might seem beneficial but if you kill any long term competitiveness and survival you have killed the Golden Goose.

That’s one opinion on the matter. The other is that 6 more months might just get the airlines to a point where recovery is far enough along to prevent future furloughs and be poised to capitalize on the increased travel. At this point both are opinions and anything beyond is a guess. But no one knows for a fact what will happen. Unless of course they can see the future in which case where was said person last winter.

I seriously don’t think that come spring 2021, traffic is going to increase by a significant amount to eliminate the need for furloughs.
The airlines have furloughed for long term survival, keeping on thinking that travel is going to surge next year is “fantasy”. Everyone is holding their breath on the vaccine, when it comes out, people will start questioning its effectivity as well as long term side effects.... and we will be back to anemic traffic growth.
