Yes, it is an experiment but it's a very expensive experiment.
I suppose I'm OK with more restrictions ON THE ASSUMPTION that there's an end in sight a few months down the road. If the vaccines don't work, or aren't safe, or nobody takes them, then this will all need to end regardless and people make their own choices. We CANNOT stay on lockdown indefinitely, if you think the economy is bad now wait and see what it looks like a year from now. Major economic sectors are running on momentum, savings, and hope (including us) but it's not sustainable. How is big government going to fix THAT? Nationalize everything and make us all vassal employees of the State? That will get you an insurrection or maybe even a civil war.

People will still be working, some from home some from the factories. The only difference is public places like restaurants will be closed. These are not essential jobs or important for the economy to get going. Also I think people get the message now so maybe that will have an overall effect on transmission rates. The government will continue to pay unemployment for the near future certainly until the vaccines have had a chance to take effect probably by next spring. As far as our industry, there’s a pandemic and there’s nothing we can do. The only hope for us is if case numbers are low. Periodic lockdowns help bring down case numbers, keeping things open WITH lack of mandates makes cases skyrocket. Europe is doing slightly better now after their latest lockdowns.

“Essential worker” or “essential job” is literally one of the dumbest phrases anyone has ever come up with.
Every job is essential to the person that has that job if it’s used to put food in their (or their family’s) stomach, put a roof over there head, pay for transportation, etc...

Every job is essential to the person who has it, not every job is essential for society to continue without starvation and chaos. You’re just splitting hairs over the verbiage. In an ideal world the “society won’t collapse if they don’t show up to work” people would’ve been paid to sit at home.

Have you been out in public recently? Mask compliance is very high. And have you seen the covid numbers? No way masks do anything close to 50%. If they worked so good the economy would be able to fully open up. And if you believe top scientists then mask work better than a vaccine. The future looks bleak if that is the case.
It’s when they get home and gather and don’t wear masks, stay inside, and not social distance. It’s why Granny and grandpa are getting Rona, from asymptomatic Billy bringing the virus home and no masks are worn. I personally know of a Grandmother in her 70s who is currently in ICU for Covid, because she was infected by her sons girlfriend who came and visited from another state and infected many at their event, indoors.
And masks are more effective than a vaccine right now. Because everyone can wear as mask, and it will be a while for vaccines to be available to everyone.

As has been stated over and over....the failure is not at the grocery store when people are wearing masks
