Impending Doom!!!

I don’t know about you all but “impending doom” is something I would reserve for the apocalypse. While I am a believer in mask wearing, and doing our best to slow the spread, this is an over the top statement.

Especially since the most recent iFR estimate is 0.15% globally. 99.85% of people survive COVID-19.

It's a shame the government is so destructive, and that scientists, "experts" and Medical Doctors don't use science at all.

The CDC director is just a window licker that doesn’t have a clue.

I'm glad these hand-wringers make these outrageous predictions. I think it helps people who are on the fence see right through them and their agenda!

I like to believe this type of rhetoric is great for the long term health of the country. The more of this stuff gets published, the more people will realize how awful, evil, and biased the bulk of the media has become - because that's how they make money.

Unfortunately, when their doom never comes to pass, they aren't required to eat any crow. They just move on to the next outrage and pretend they never wrote any of the previous nonsense.

"Although more than one in three American adults have received at least one shot and nearly one-fifth are fully vaccinated, the nation is a long way away from reaching so-called herd immunity — the tipping point that comes when spread of a virus begins to slow because so many people, estimated at 70 to 90 percent of the population, are immune to it."

OK, if 10% has had a confirmed case (by positive test) and the real number of cases is 6 to 10 times many (as the "experts" estimate) - https://www.npr.org/sections/health-...than-you-think

then if 20% of the population is fully vaccinated, and another 60+% of the population has already had it, help me with the math - even with some overlap, how is it possible we are not at herd immunity right now?

Because something something science, something something Fauci, something something.

Duh.

From what I've seen and this article similarly shows; 3 - 4 times the positive cases are the estimated cases. So like the article says, we’re at about 120 million USA citizens had covid already. With 50 million fully vaccinated, and counting overlap, probably a safe estimate would be like 150 million? I can’t find the data that shows how many vaccinated had never tested for covid prior.
Either way, we’re at like 45% immunity. But that’s not given the context of location. Places like NY or LA got to have much more immunity than rural, wealthy, or isolated places that hardly saw any covid cases.

They say we need as much as 90% immunity but what makes more sense is where the immunized lived. People in cities where mixing occurs is where we need that immunity, and I think we’re very close to that happening.

I see what you are saying, but I think it is higher. We are a nation of 330 million people with 31 million confirmed positive cases. So say 10% confirmed positive,. The article says that the experts estimate that over the entirety of the pandemic, five times more people have been infected than have been reported - in this article. There are other "experts" out there that estimate higher numbers. But that does mean at least 155 million cases already by my math, about half the population without counting vaccinations.

Of those getting vaccinations, none of the deaths would fit in that category (550K), plus another 50 million fully vaccinated people and another 100 million people that have gotten at least one dose. If there is zero overlap, that would mean that 155 million cases plus 150 million partially/fully vaccinated people = over 300 million with immunity in a nation of 330 million.

How much overlap is there? Hard to say, but logically I still don't really see how we are not already there. Even worse case scenario I would assume well over 50% have immunity, either natural or vaccine conferred.

I'm not all that familiar with the medical field. I have however spent a good bit of time in and around the federal government. I look at "Dr" Walensky's bio, and I see someone who graduated med school, spent a handful of years practicing medicine, and then progressed into several management roles, became a professor, then went into government.

Very accomplished, for sure. But I regard her as a federal bureaucrat much more than a Doctor. She's doing what bureaucrats do, she's spouting whatever message keeps her and her organization relevant (and funded). It's not malicious, it's just the nature of the beast. If Dr. Walensky was in charge, we'd be wearing masks and social distancing until the end of time.

Haven't got a whole lot of faith in the current administration to see the difference between Doctor and bureaucrat. Glad to see some of the Statehouses do.
