I'm reminded many times I am so lucky to live in a first world country and this is yet another example of it. This complaint is a first world problem. I can't believe (actually I can) that we live in a country that is in a position to DEMAND getting paid to take a vaccine to protect their own life + life of their loved ones during a global pandemic that has killed 4+ million reported (and many more unreported in third world countries). Back in March when I took the vax, I didn't bend over and take anything from the company. Nor did I do it to be some company boy. I did it to protect myself, my immediate family, my parents, extended family and the inlaws. Parents+inlaws are older and they are in the potential risk category.

The country I was born in is 1/12 the size of the US but a population that is 70% of the US. People there live in extended families, small homes, and people live on top of each other with how closely it's spaced. They don't have the vaccine availability like we do here. They are getting the Chinese vaccine flown in and that is something like 50-60% efficacy, but it has not gotten into the arms of a large amount of people needed for herd immunity. There are many people there who would take the vaccine but do not have the chance/ability to do so (that said, many also who don't want any vaccine). This story is no different for dozens of third world countries throughout the world.

And while this may ruffle feathers, I don't see myself in any position to complain about not getting 4 grand to take the vaccine that is designed to save myself, my loved ones, and to exit the pandemic. "Our peers making a ton of money off this" is quite frankly an insult to the rest of the world. That we are demanding to be paid thousands to take a vaccine while the rest of the world doesn't have enough vaccines (and can't take it even though they want it) is the pinnacle of first world country problems. I already talked to a union rep and told him that I do not see eye to eye on this subject. I can't wait until we get a vaccine mandate. About time. Getting a bit tired of Covid exposure phone calls. I'm not willing to get my BP raised on a subject like vaccine payout because I'm not losing any sleep if I don't get 3 or 4 grand for taking the vaccine. You and I will never see eye to eye on this subject and that's fine.

They aren’t paying you for getting the shot. They are paying you for a piece of your private medical record. It has value to your company for a variety of reasons. Unfortunately, union groups that failed to negotiate a deal prior to the presidential mandate have lost almost all leverage to do so. Life can be hard in third world countries (for a long list of reasons), that’s why all of us choose to live here and not there. Hopefully, your family overseas will gain access to an effective vaccine sooner rather than later.

We aren’t demanding to be paid for vaccinations we are pointing out how we are not treated like our peers in the same profession, with the same amount of responsibility.

That's one way to look at it. You missed the point though. I was talking about the principle of the matter, expecting compensation for taking a vaccine that protects yourself, your loved ones, and an effective way out of the worse pandemic since the 1918 Spanish Flu.

The point is around telling Alaska management about it. They refused to support us. DM came right out and said we should use our sick time and we would not be supported in any way. So I’m not going to support them by helping them in the form of offering up my medical history voluntarily.

Your sob story about life in Pakistan is duly noted. However it has absolutely zero about the pilot group at AS or our willingness to voluntarily offer up our medical history. Our peers at other airlines were offered an incentive (pay and time off) to voluntarily disclose their medical history. That is what I would expect as a pilot with equal responsibility who flies the same equipment.

This is what I expect but sadly because of pilots like you who grasp at straws to please managers, we will likely get nothing in return for disclosing our medical history. These managers hate pilots. They despise us. Why do you grasp a straws to please them?

I guess it's a difference in opinion. It's a vaccine. It's no different than applying to Delta and then having to tell them whether or not you have the Yellow Fever vaccine. If you consider that having to disclose your medical history, :shrug: The Covid card shows nothing about you or your personal medical history except that you got your Covid jab and what date(s).

No. Im not asking for extra pay. I’m asking to be supported. Like my peers at SWA, UAL and DAL et al. I don’t want to use my benefit, sick time to get something on my days off or have a loss of income to help the company out.

Also I already work here. Choosing to work at DAL means you need to show them your yellow card from the passport. It’s a requirement to apply. Again a complete straw man argument. That’s not what is happening here at AS.
