It's awkward to get in and out of the seat, which is unfortunate with some of the longer legs (pilot's and aircraft's). FO's bag goes in the main cabin, and actually behind First Class on the -900... annoying at the times you are trying to go reverse flow. Lav and water status indicators are conveniently located at the back of the airplane. Overhead panel, even on the newest 737, hasn't advanced much in decades. The noise can be mitigated by a good anr headset, but the good anr headset can be mitigated by a captain who would rather yell (or worse, mumble) and listen to the overhead speaker. Intercom use seems to be increasing slowly. The airplane is happy to overspeed itself if you aren't paying attention. The trips and layovers are generally some of the best in the domestic system. Some aspects of the avionics are great and others are a little quirky. Captains seem to love the hud. If you like saying goodbye, it takes a long time to get all the passengers out, so that's nice.

I will add that the lack of intercom usage is pretty ridiculous. I didn't realize it was built that way until I sat on a Delta jumpseat. All other operators seem to have it figured out.
That seems base dependent and luckily my base is much less stupid then others.

TEDs description was about as unbiased and accurate as one could get.

You have to train your captains to use the hot mic. I flew with a few guys that refuse to use them on the 900's because they "are not use to hearing themselves talk while flying." When I fly with these guys that don't like the hot mic I speak lower than they do. Then, tell them over the hot mic that you cant hear what they are saying. They always use the hot mic after that. I use Bose ANR and im not flying with one ear off just because...

old dogs and all.....
idk how anyone with chronic tinnitus would want to add insult to injury.
in your 'education' of the old dogs....might want to suggest at toc both deactivate the hot mic until tod. I do...and leave the headset on and use ptt or rocker for ic comms.
in the terminal environment its primarily a safety issue in my mind..

Ha, health. So there's a new drug that NASA is developing for the Mars missions. Apparently you get dosed so hard that you're assured of developing cancer. This drug supposedly heals radiation induced DNA damage. They're talking 3-5 years before it's available commercially. I think we should be first in line for that pill!

Please describe the intercom set-up for us outsiders. I've never been in a DL 737 cockpit, but I have a lot of FE time in OA back seats. Some Delta ships have an IC hot mic, and some not? So it's a hassle to use the PTT when no hot mic exisits? When I flew turboprops, we simply toggled up to transmit on the radio and down to talk to the guy next to you. Of course I had a younger, faster brain then, but it became second nature - I don't see the big deal. Admittedly, hot is mo betta. Not a place to nickle and dime from a health and safety aspect! I read somewhere that the rubber band mic switch redneck STC is frowned upon, but I see other carriers using it and it works. Is it a valid when option when Feds and LCPs aren't on-scene? I recall the Alaska guys made a big stink about noise when the MD-80 series gave way to the 737. I think they were close to getting company-provided Bose units, but I don't think they prevailed. I rode XCM with a captain who had a tenitus OJI case in the works. The 737 noise issue is real, and I would hope that every advantage could be put to work on our behalf.

737 has the best domestic trips by far. Helps a lot that it is still a growing category. Airbus trips will be getting better over time as more 321s come online.
Like others have said, it is an insanely loud cockpit and an ANR headset is mandatory. Slowly more and more captains are getting ANR headsets yet very few like using the intercom. I keep pressing them all on using it as it makes life so much easier.
