The union used Carmine to run numerous simulations of possible VB options. In the end they found 3 cities that might work for a total cost savings of 20 million a year. None of the cities being discussed were among those.
And what cities were they?

Hoping for Aspen or Reno.

It doesn't seem to make sense to me but it comes straight from the horse's mouth. This isn't some webboard rumor from an anonymous source.
Can you point us to that document. None of the available MSP company base newsletters mention it including May.

Fellow Council 1 Pilots,

Summer is here, and we wanted to provide a quick update covering a few current topics of interest.

Second Quarter 2017 Local Council Meeting
On May 22, we held our second quarter local council meeting at Doolittle’s Woodfire Grill in Eagan. Pilots in attendance received briefings from local Safety Committee Chairman Norm Lindsey, guests from MSP ATC, MEC Scope Compliance Chairman Brandon Conwill, Delta Manager of Crew Resources Bob Schmelzer, MEC Vice Chairman Ryan Schnitzler, and an R&I presentation from Dan Stowell. Thank you to those who attended!

The presentations from the meeting have been uploaded to the Council 1 website and can be viewed by clicking on the appropriate link: Scope and R&I presentation. A copy of the Q&A with Crew Resources is attached to this update and can also be found on the council website.

Q&A with Bob Schmelzer, General Manager, Crew Resources

Q: What is the overall plan for MSP in the next 1-3 years?
A: Generally upgauging 76-seaters to 717. Category growth in MSP will be primarily the 73N. Deliveries of the CS100 will likely push more 717s to MSP over the next 12-24 months,, and a MSP717 base in the future is likely.

Q: Will MSP 320 and 7ER fleets maintain size/backfill, grow, or shrink?
A: MSP320 block hours are decreasing as the 320 fleet is being gradually redeployed to the east coast and backfilling the MD88s in ATL and NYC. For a period of time the MSP320 will likely not be backfilled and shrunk as pilots leave and retire. 7ER fleet is stable, but 7ER category block hours will see growth in NYC/SEA/LAX and shrink in MSP/DTW/ATL. The transition will happen slowly and some backfill is expected in MSP7ER. MSP7ER is staffed properly for the summer 2017 schedule.

Q: What is the anticipated final size of the MSP73N category?
A: 125 Crews (125A & 125B).

Q: Any plans for MSP717, MSP330, MSP777, C-Series?
A: MSP717 is likely once C-Series deliveries begin. MSP330 is being looked at when the A330-900 deliveries begin (2019-2020 timeframe). 777 is still moving around and unsure if it will continue to have departures in MSP; therefore, no plans for MSP777. C-Series will likely have its first base in LAX flying coast to coast. The second C-Series base may be a virtual base, and there are no plans for MSP C-Series."

Reread my point number two if you think the company would not be committing time and resources in this instance. They would be over staffing a category (costing lots of money in training/moving expenses for a new category) in a base that has great "commuting" weather and then "hoping" pilots would bid a VB in the middle of the country from this one base? I say again, NOT GONNA HAPPEN with just one base to recruit pilots to staff the VB from...

I agree with your last sentence.

I just found it also. It's a union pub not a base newsletter. It also makes no mention of a Midwest VB as widely quoted here. Want to bet it's SFO if they attempt it?

You still run into the same problems staffing it from one permanent base....

I'll agree the company would get more pilots to bid SFO than some mid-country VB (except maybe DFW). But, IMO, it would be cost prohibitive with only one permanent base.

I never said a Midwestern VB. Someone else may have. I agree with Denny that a VB with only one permanent base doesn't make a lot of sense which is why I was surprised to hear Schmelzer suggest it.

Do they look at how many pilots live in the potential VB and are on that fleet?
