Default A "doozy"

In Oct I had to put in some MLOA which dropped two trips, so I'm scrambling to find some other trips to pickup within my availability. I found one on the swap board that looks like this;

-Late DHD out of base 10th to the airport near my home (wouldn't do the DHD)

-Operate flight that departs 0001 on the 11th

The 10th is a MLOA commute day, I'd be home that morning at the latest. Can't pick up the trip because it starts with a DHD on the 10th but I wouldn't use it, I'd just drive up to the airport near my home and operate the flight that starts the next day at 0001 on the 11th.

Is this possible or am I just SOL since MLOA touches a day that the rotation technically starts on, even though I wouldn't start that day.

Fun to imagine a world in which the company just trusted its military members to do the right thing. You know...like how they trust us to fly their passengers around the world?

Sure, there will be some bad apples as happens in every aspect of society. But the toxic culture perpetuated by management WRT MLOA is truly holding us all back.

Well, the issue was that the commuting MLOA day touched the first day of a trip that had to be dropped. The trip started in base at 1100, which I wouldn't be able to make. A midnight departure from my home is something I can make. I'd imagine if I called and asked them to remove the MLOA commuting day they'd either put the trip back on (wouldn't be able to make it) or open an investigation as to my use of MLOA (maybe not that drastic, but who knows).

If there weren't abusers of MLOA and sick leave then we wouldn't have to worry about trust issues. I've had guys tell me from their own mouths about abusing sick leave and mil leave. A couple even lectured me as a newbie that I needed to take all my sick leave.

We have fought to keep DH deviations from effecting pay and rest. Some things cut both ways. Pilots who deviate DH on the back end have their rest based on the scheduled DH. That can be a really good deal for reserves. Do we want to change it?
Unless the Mil Leave caused a trip drop on that last day just pull the day and pick up the trip. You won't have any issues.

So should we blame Delta for being the only Major to hire these abusers? Why is the military relationship so much better other places, and why do they not verify sick leave like we do?

It could also be that other companies understand that abuse will always take place, in any system and under any rules. They just don't let those minor actions of a tiny minority derade the quality of life of the vast majority. It's called respecting your employees.

Management, and not some handful of abusers, is why we can't have nice things. Naturally they want you to believe otherwise, and many (like you) do.

Well, your premise is wrong. It's (the military relationship) not better at other airlines, it is markedly worse at both UCAL and AA. Don't know about SWA, Alaska or JetBlue.

Not saying you're wrong, but I've certainly gotten a different impression from military friends at all of those places. Where does your data come from?
