I just want to point out that the iPads that EDV has are setup to be remotely managed. One of the company apps also tracks everywhere the iPad goes and keeps a history. Although none of this was "secret" in any way, there are plenty of off the shelf enterprise capabilities for iPads for things like this. I imagine we'll have something similar so there's not really a need for a backdoor for them to know where you are with it.
I saw something on it about the only way they can access our info - I’ll see if I can screen shot it later.

So if you close all company apps and are only using personal apps, are you completely "off grid" WRT them?

Tunes is not wrong, they can get everything, or at least they used to. The data however is collected downstream, regardless of the device you use. You can take two iPads with you, and the company can get data from both, or your phone, or these days, even your wifi thermostat. The companies that produce these items, sell your data to whomever is buying.
