Deadheading crews in seats that otherwise could have been sold at premium prices compound that cost. When HVC’s provide feedback that indicate seats, and or overhead storage, were not available due to deadheading crews, that further compounds the cost. Because our deadhead language at mainline isn’t all that robust compared to other carriers, this is the reality we face. It would only seem logical that it trickles down to DCI, since mainline has even less control as to the number and type of deadheads being scheduled.

To address what casualobserver said about alcohol; my opinion only, let’s not waste the negotiating capital on this and take our eyes off the ball, when we can target training and vacation pay, R&I, JV scope and a multitude of other, more important issues.

Bottom line; deadheading sucks, but our fellow fare-paying passengers who we ride along with ultimately allow us to collect a paycheck, so I think that is what we should keep in mind here.

We (mainline pilots) can’t book directly into FC. The only way we get into it is by upgrade at the gate less than an hour prior to departure and in priority order. To the complaining HVCs, I’d say they had every chance to take that seat. If it was going to be unfilled, there should be no problem with the next person on the list getting the seat.

As for the Comfort seats, same basic principle or argument , though, we add in the “cost of doing business” angle if we get the seat before we show up at the gate.

Now, regarding the baggage issue, the company is complicit in that now that we have the ridiculous safety vest requirement for ramp access everywhere. More crews will not be taking their bags down so that situation will get worse.

I've had passengers complain about me, or other uniformed crew members sitting in a premium seat. There is no doubt they also complain to the company about it.

Maybe, just maybe, they should pay extra to sit in those seats. They had the opportunity. They just wanted it for free.

God forbid our crews sit comfortably on a DH — especially if they’re not even done with their flying that day.

We don’t get any premium seat unless it’s empty. Plenty of opportunity for passengers to buy them right up until boarding.

If anything this is something that needs improvement in the next contract, optics aside.

I hope you guys are not seriously implying that Delta cares about our opinions any more than they care about DCI’s.

When they’ve taken strides in the last year to give us the ability to book ourselves in Comfort, I’d say yes they at least tried. The fact that a 9E memo is saying mainline doesn’t have these privileges is confounding to say the least.

Actually, you can't imbibe within 8 hours of the start of such a dead head either...even on your own time before reporting for the rotation. That dead-head-only duty period on an airplane you're not trained to operate would clearly be unsafe had you consumed a Bud Light on the 18th hole 6 hours before signing in, right?

Management doesn't stop showing us the ways they TRULY don't care about our quality of life. Is the drinking policy a huge deal in and of itself? Not for me. But a thousand cuts on those backpack straps are going to start to do some damage.

We geezers remember the days when DHs and nonrevs frequently got First Class. That was because Delta wouldn’t upgrade any passenger for less than full FC fare, lest the perceived “value” of that seat be eroded. Pass privileges were of immense value back then.

Yep. Anyway all this just bumped up my "United-Plus!" DH improvement expectations for C19.

Ample opportunity to purchase premium seat. They need to make the decision.
