Why would we entertain it? That’s a non-starter and I don’t see us even considering that. I will say this however, if UAL or AMR caves on Scope, which I do not see happening, it will increase the pressure on us.

The opener needs to recover SCOPE. Then maybe we have a chance at maintaining SCOPE or even some slight recovery. We are acquiescing if we don’t ask for recovery.

In your previous post, I assumed you meant JV scope.

While I was talking about lower end RJ/DCI scope, the same thing applies to JV. I see them trying to get relief in some form for both. I don't see them trying to get any relief for another Alaska code share abuse scheme in the middle of the range however. This time around we gotta watch the flanks.

I think the Scope side of negotiations is gonna be about JV Scope. In particular about Aero Mexico, Westjet, and Korean Air.

My hunch is that you'll be able to add at least one more to that list, although I don't know which...

Not trying to be picky, but I noticed the MEC chair capitalized SCOPE too in his comm. Is that a NW thing? Truly just wondering where this started. (Asking for a friend who works at the grammar police.)

I agree. We’ve been working on AeroMexico by itself for about 2 years now. Both sides share blame for that. When you add the other JVs and a full Section 6 with work rule and retirement issues, I have no reason to believe there will be any deal achieved for several years, despite gzsg’s optimism.

Yup, this is the standard with the RLA. 4 year contracts are always 5 and many times 6+. It’s the nature of the beast. Airlines get another year of fixed costs because the union is prohibited from labor actions. The union has a big opener because of the lack of opportunity to get more. Then both sides try to read the economic tea leaves to see if delays will benefit them. Finally a shaping of perceptions to convince the pilot group that the deal is right and timely and that this is all that’s on the table.

It's being capitalized for emphasis. Despite being Section 1 of the PWA, pilots sometimes need a reminder of the importance. It's like SHOUTING FROM YOUR KEYBOARD.
