Delta and Alitalia Merger Meeting in Atlanta

This! 1.E.9. This has been my rant for years. It made it into the contract for a reason. I don't think it was an ALPA ask. In TA 1 it was MEC chairman's approval only and we all remember who that was at the time, right? Now it's the MEC as a body. That's at least 10 people they'd have to pay off. Oops, I mean incent.

Some ALPA politicians made a lot of hay by confusing you.

We (DAL, inc) could end up with a fantastic deal. We (the seniority list pilots) could end up with a much less awesome deal than that deal.

Still no one on the NC admits to it being an ALPA ask. 1.E.1. is an exemption for permitted operation further defined, not a universal authority. 1.E.9. is managements pathway that previously did not exist.

The real threat here is if Alitalia goes away.
Air Italy (Meridiana Airlines rebranded about 9 months ago) with 16 old 737/767/A330 jets was recently 49% bought by Qatar. Orders for a fleet of 55 new jets with service to the US and codeshare to the Mideast. Air Italy would be Italy’s default flag carrier (probably helped by Oneworld) if Alitalia isn’t saved... and a real big deal (if it isn’t already).
Emirates is already doing 5th freedom MXP-JFK. Qatar pinky-promised not to, but Air Italy without competition and Mideast state-sponsored limitless losses pose a real challenge to Skyteam and Delta EU-US. I hope Alitalia makes it. I bet AFKLM does too.
