I un second that.

I felt like I was continually learning and unlearning techniques (like flows...). Few instructors had deep systems knowledge to help explain the WHY we were doing something. And trying to find the answer on your own was a lost cause because the manuals are split up and sent to the 4 corners of the world.

Regional training was much more smooth in my case.

ACA CRJ/D328J training survivor here. 26 memory items. Non-AQP. Pink badge of courage.

Then moved on to World MD11 training. Here’s a box of books. The oral is in 6 weeks. We’re not letting you know what’s on the oral — it depends on the examiner. Also non-AQP.

Ok, you can all sit down now.

Delta training on any aircraft is a walk in the park.

MadDog training at the factory school was a really good deal. We were provided with an apartment in Seal Beach and a rental car. The IPs couldn’t be too pedantic, because they didn’t understand the Beast either.

Was that the Dog factory, or had Mad merged with them? Or are you not that old (post-1967)?

It was at the old Douglas factory in early 1988, well after the merger. The “glass” could only show round-dial information, because the LNAV and VNAV weren’t ready yet.

We're talking about quality, not difficulty.

Walk in the park does not equal good. AQP has nothing to do with it.

While this is mostly true, your delivery may cause some blowback. FWIW, I was very unimpressed with Delta training when I went through initial. No systems knowledge? C'mon. It's up to me to read Vol 2 on my spare time. That said, I have had no complaints about CQs...other than the D and E periods!

That's fair. IQ was bad, CQ has been good. Overall systems knowledge is lacking and difficult to self teach with our manuals.

Also not a fan of going back every 9 months and having a noticably worse schedule every one of those months.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a company basher. I just want to see us be the best, and we are definitely not when it comes to training.

I got to go to AA's DC-10 school, painless, and you could go anytime, 24-7. That is when I realized DAL was Gilet Jaune in ground schools. (I don't know what that means, but GLOOPY used it, so it must be trez chic)
