Default Widebody Personal Drop Rule on Reserve

I've read it in the PWA, but it's slightly confusing. Looks like you can PD as long as the blocks of days left are equal to the minimum trip length? So if on the 330 and a 3-Day is shortest, you can't use a PD to leave you with a 2-day block of reserve? Also, is the 7ER considered a "widebody" category since it has the 757? Thanks in advance. I utilize PDs regularly on my narrowbody fleet for schedule flexibility but want to learn how it affects widebody life. Also, do you find it much harder to WS/GS due to FAR117 and block hour limits on widebody? Thanks in advance.

I can’t answer any of your questions. But before FAR 117, it was a lot easier to manipulate your schedule because a 24 hour break was all that was required for rest. So most layovers counted. I once asked for 3 weekends off in April (09). PBS gave me 2 of the weekends off but I worked 12 days straight. I got my rest in TXL, IST, and VCE. With the 30 hour requirement, I don’t know.

The point of the 30 hour rule was to prevent exactly what you did.

You're talking about 23 I. 9. Exceptions 1 and 2. The shortest block you can PD to is 4 days on the 7ER and bigger, unless you're in a category with an MSL(look at he A-350 bid pack), then you can be stuck with one long block of at least 9 days or whatever the MSL is.

What's an MSL?

So for a NB puke, can you explain how that is applied and how it can leave you stuck with a giant chunk of RES?

As a "NB puke," it can't. The 350 has a bunch of 9-day trips whereas domestic does not. Basically, they want reserves to be available to fly 9-day trips so they restrict how you can swap/drop X days in a manner that ensures you can fly a 9-day trip.

The 330 doesn't have an MSL anymore - when it did very long trips it did. The only one is the A350, for Capt and FO. The categories with an MSL will be in the bid package, it's around page 20.

I meant as a NB puke considering a 777 . So as I understand it, there's a contractual provision that limits a RES pilots ability to manipulate their schedule should the category have long duration trips? Kind of weird considering those 9 day trips on the 350 include a 72 hour layover don't they? Seems like it would be easy enough to break that trip up and cover with 2 different RES pilots.
