Default Insurance help for New Hire

Delta Pros,

Tried searching through the threads but with limited success on this topic. I’m a new hire that starts Indoc in March. Separating from the active duty at 19.5 years to joint Delta and the military reserves. I currently do Tricare Select for the family and do a supplemental program through MOAA that gives my family a lot of flexibility and choice off-base. My wife also works for a Fortune 500 company so we could go back to her insurance if need be (we haven’t gone that route up until now based on cost) and essentially get the same quality of care with our current route.

How good/bad (cost, quality, red tape) is Delta health insurance? Any words of advice based on my situation? Any blind spots I should try to avoid?

Thanks for the time and looking forward to joining the team!

Not sure about Tricare, but I would say there's a 90% chance your wife's insurance is cheaper and better than the insurance we have at Delta.

TRICARE reserve select is where it’s at. Super cheap comparatively to all insurance.

Why leave at 19.5 years!?! Delay Delta 6 months and get that lifetime annuity starting day 1. You’re crazy.

I’m sure there’s a spreadsheet somewhere that says leaving at 19.5 years is a good idea but man!

If you sleep 12 hours a day, you are 3 months from a retirement that will pay for at least 15 years before a reserve retirement kicks in.

Or he does 6 months worth of orders at some point in the reserves, gets the full retirement, and gains about 500 seniority positions.

Wolf424 is spot on. That’s exactly what I have going on once I’m off probation. Wasn’t ready to hang up my g suit yet...

Most mil guys I know, myself included, use Tricare for medical, but use Delta for vision and dental.

Keep tricare.

I retire from the reserves this year and all the Delta options are way more for way less coverage.
