IIRC, the news release on Deltanet explaining the black uniforms stated they are still required to wear wings and name tags.

This. I don’t know how people can rationalize otherwise and claim we’re just typical “control-freak” Delta pilots.

There is a distinction which renders your argument void:

Deadheading/commuting pilots are employees that don’t want to be and aren’t required to be recognized as crew. Working FA’s are.

Off rotation deadhead is also included in the policy.

FOM addresses this in non-ambiguous language. (FOM 24.1.2 - won't cut and paste here as it's proprietary stuff)

If you use the PS seat, it's an off rotation deadhead, the answer is NO (no libations). Nor can you have any alcohol in your system.

Ditto if it's a PS seat to/from training.

Think this changed a year or two ago? (maybe 3?) I really do wonder what the incident/incidents were that precipitated the change? I looked it up a couple of months ago when a new-ish hire asked.

Fly safe.

Because critiquing what other employee groups are wearing makes you sound like it. Who cares. If they want to all wear yellow, that's between them and their management.

Thanks for the reference. Looks like that is sown up tight. Oh well.

He is stating his opinion. For what it’s worth, he is right - having 500 FAs with 380 different uniforms looks tacky. It just does. It will and is eroding the Delta brand, which is something HQ seems to care about deeply. But, its just an opinion, he’s not enforcing any policy or treating people differently. Simply making an observation.

Don't forget how many pilots said the purple uniforms were eroding the Delta brand because they didn't match the airplane color. The customer greatly disagreed. Stick to airplane flying. Let marketing deal with brand awareness and in-flight deal with this uniform quagmire they got themselves in.
