Default New SVP of Flt Ops

Just wondering what does everyone think about our new SVP?
First time in Delta history maybe even the industry history the top pilot is ...not really a pilot.

”... As part of that leadership growth plan, I’ve asked Jim Graham to lead Delta’s Corporate Safety, Security and Compliance group as Senior Vice President, reporting to me. In his 31-year Flight Operations career, Jim has supported and advocated on behalf of our 14,500 pilots and the behind-the-scenes support team who continue to advance Delta’s flying operations. Jim has a deep respect for the challenges of running a global operation and always puts safety above all else. It’s a core value that he’s promoted throughout the Flight Operations team, and I’m excited to see him continue to drive that culture across the entire airline.

With Jim’s transition, John Laughter will become Senior Vice President of Flight Operations, also reporting to me. John has decades of experience leading the Delta TechOps and Corporate Safety, Security and Compliance organizations. With his diverse operational background and as a licensed pilot and aerospace engineer, John is the perfect fit to support our pilots and the entire Flight Operations team. He recognizes the critical safety role our pilots hold in the operation and the significant positive impact pilots have on the customer experience. His broad insights throughout the airline will help support the leading work already being done by our pilot training, pilot standards, technical support, regulatory compliance and operational quality assurance teams...”

He’s supposedly an ATP, but not on our seniority list.

I can’t possibly see how this is a good thing for our unit group. But I hope I’m wrong.

Put a guy in charge of flight operations who has never actually operated a flight at DL? Makes sense.

I’ve only been in this industry for 5 years, but this seems...odd...to me.

If one has never flown the line and experienced the day to day bits...I'm skeptical of performance & leadership in such a role.
