The reason they cite for not opening the BOS 320 or 330 base is "training churn" - because it's a new base, anyone can bid it, even with a seat lock. So they'll need excess training capacity in order to open another base.... and as you can see from our hiring, I can't see that happening anytime soon.

Which is why they “open” the base with a whopping 25 positions, then wait the requisite # of days (can’t remember if it’s 60 or 90), then post the bulk of the positions in the category that is no longer “new” (and thus doesn’t break a seat lock). Minimizes the churn bigly.
What seems rational (start a small A330SLC and A320BOS) makes complete sense, but some number cruncher sees a penny that’s will cost a dime to get. |

At SLC base meeting, Bob essentially said the initial 330 opening would be small. 30-40 crews. Then proceeded to say the future base right now could be close to 100. Kind of going off what Fangs said.
Not that are ever that honest with us, FWIW lol |

Spoke to a chief last week in ATL about something unrelated and he kindly dropped that Austin was going to be a base if Covid didn’t happen. Love the teasing.
Yesterday we planned on offering free beer tomorrow. |

Now that COVID has created increased growth in AUS it makes sense that we would leave it alone. AA and SWA are better equipped to handle the volume. The best we can do there is have KLM helping with the AMS flights.
