My original post probably should have asked, "Are you dealing with this too?" or "Is your spouse overreacting as well?", instead of "What would you do?" While I appreciate the advice, and a few insults, I am not going to call out "sick" when I feel well. If I feel the home environment elevates to a more serious level a few days before the trip, I'll call the CP and ask for PDs and/or KLOAs/PLOAs. Thanks again for all of your thoughts and humor - very entertaining to read how others are viewing this current issue.

Calling in sick, according to the PWA is defined as: “Sickness” means any personal medical condition of a pilot, physical or mental, that 19 disables him from performing duties as a flight crewmember." While it is a benefit negotiated by the CBA it really isn't something you can use as you see fit, like a mental health day off or something. It's more serious than that. Mentally disabled doesn't mean you can call in sick because your wife doesn't want you working. For a reason like that, you need to call the CP and get the trip dropped. But hey just ask the guys posting vacation pics from the Caribbean while they called out sick, what is their interpretation of Section 14 now?

Come on guys. How about context?
I retarded the spark on my ignition while giving my truck a tune up? A troll starts posting on a Delta pilot forum portraying himself as "ace of the base" during his Delta interview....#1 in the COG test....#1 in math....#1 in anything and everything Delta tests combined with being a minority. Apparently he didnt get a Delta job. He has the audacity to revel in the problems ALL pilots are enduring especially at Delta. Basically just a troll. So I call him a social retard. Please save your faux outrage for real offensive behavior and language. I will willingly take my lumps when warranted, but I don't think this specific circumstance is one of those occasions. |

Just curious, what do you consider “real offensive behavior and language” My 63 yr. old “special needs” sister would disagree with you. But then again you can’t argue with insensitive and ignorant people. Yes, ignorant. Enough said.
This has nothing to do with your sister, but go ahead and import your outrage. Do you feel superior now? Glad I could help. |

Ya, "as you see fit" is probably too broad. I just thought it was assumed that you shouldn't be calling in sick then rolling on a vacation...I guess there are always outliers lol. I guess I'll just leave it at, if you can't pass your own IMSAFE checklist, then you're not physically or mentally fit for duty (per the PWA definition), then use your sick time. How narrow or broad the definition of IMSAFE is up to the individual.
IMSAFE is for whether you should fly or not. Not whether you should call out sick. The “I” is illness, or Sick. Sick leave is for sick. ”Stressed out” doesn’t mean you get to blow a sick day, or “personal day”, it means call your chief pilot. ”Fatigue” doesn’t mean use a sick call. It means call fatigue or unfit for duty. |
