Sure would be nice if Ma Delta took some precautions. We've all heard the stories of

Good points. Reserves will pick up his flying, and none of them have wives, families, or health concerns of their own.

It’s a tough situation because the company has shown very little regard for our health in my opinion. I just had this conversation with my family when they were all for me calling in sick. I pointed out that if I do someone is going to have to fly this trip. They understand, although I may find tent in the yard with my name on it when I get home.

(I know it's not politically correct to use that term, but sometimes it is appropriate) before anyone jumps on buck here for his crass language just remember it’s ok to use the R word if you’re from said group. It’s like the N word for the MAGA crowd. |

1. Planes are empty
2. Airports are ghost towns. 3. Hotels are at 10% capacity, if that. 4. Even van drivers are wiping everything down. Seeing more masks (including pilots) more aggressive hand cleaning, and people standing 10 feet’s away from each other each passing day. Fact is, you’re going to run into smaller groups of people on the road than you will at your local supermarket. Unless you, your wife, and your kids are truly staying at home 24/7, with ONE shopping day a week, you’re probably less likely to get infected on the road right now than at home. No pilot has died from this, I’ve spoken to several who think they had it in January, and spoke with one FA who’s pilot husband was a confirmed case and is on the mend/quarantine. You could enlist the advice of your family health care provider to explain the risks to your wife (this could backfire) Otherwise, I’d say a KLOA or PLOC is the only honest way to deal with this. No sane person wants to be on the road now, but it is what it is. Best of luck. This is going to get much worse (the economy, not the deaths) before it gets better. |

Yes...perfect addition to my method.
That's a bit much. I might agree with you if the company just gave us X amount of sick leave like the non-cons. But ours is a benefit negotiated by our CBA...imho it's yours to use as you see fit. |

Most likely you’re going to get it, whether you go to work or not, unless you are on complete lock down.
Hope you haven’t opened your mail. Hope you haven’t gone to the store or had food delivered. 3 times now I’ve seen cashiers touch change with their gloves and then handle food. One was at a take out place. my favorite is the Westin dtw. Take all the coffee makers out of the room that at most one person touches a day, and put coffee pots downstairs that everyone in the hotel touches. Brilliant! |
A lot of postings about sick use, but not too much advice.
I am a NYC pilot, but live in PA and drive to work. I have a elderly person with underlying health issues (parent) that lives next door to us. Literally 30 feet in a separate tiny guest house. My wife and daughters all provide care for her. I thought it might be a good idea for me to sleep in the spare bedroom until either I have been home for 6 days with no symptoms or I start my next trip The spare bedroom has a tv and separate bathroom, so not too bad. When I am in the rest of the house I wear a mask, I only have 3, so I resanitize them on a daily basis. There is a chair in the living room off to the side that I sit in now for a few minutes of social time with the rest of the family. It’s 10 ft from the rest. Since I am not symptomatic I remove my mask when just sitting there for a few minutes. The girls all know to not sit in that chair, but I wipe it down anyways. I came home late last night from a trip and basically took off my uni and jacket outside in the garage to prevent bringing anything in that was on me. I put an lidded clothes hamper out there for that such case, I also wash my own clothes...(really always have). Additionally, I wipe down anything I have touched in the main houseIE doorknobs, faucets etc. I had my wife give me a small ziplock bag of Clorox wipes to carry with me for this purpose. I am practicing social distancing with my own family, it sucks, but might mean life or death. A short term inconvenience for sure, but necessary in my mind. I also take the girls for a bike ride around the block, so we get some outside time ( all with the social distancing ) its not an ideal situation, but it’s very reasonable steps of prevention. Is it foolproof, no, but It works for us. I don’t want to be the one that is responsible for killing grandma. |
