Recency Strategies

Your timecard will show pay and credit for your reserve obligation and just pay for the training. You need to add them together to get total pay for the month. It works the same as vacation in a reserve month.
67:30 + 8 = 75:30 pay for the month.

Is it not normal for widebody guys at delta to let their landings expire? At AA guys love it and sit around for a while until they call them In to the sim. It’s like a free mini vacation.
edit: this was all very common to not be current before the chinavirus. Widebody guys have always gamed the system to not be current.

This is one of main reasons I never trust the reserves available chart. I've thought I had top cover then get assigned a trip. Took a peak at the schedule of the guy above me and he had a recency sim just like kylie scenario. I think it will do the same if you have reserve in either side of CQ. I actually didnt mind becuase it was a nice 3 day 30 hr SAN layover, I was just wondering what was up with the reserves available chart.

Similar situation here. Just took a look to see if I was safe from an open trip. Reserve available list showed one person in line ahead of me for that trip. Quick glance at his schedule shows that pilot's recency is expired. So reserve list shows available, but really he isn't. What's the point?

That's weird. I'm currently on 30/7 rest also, but available times on the list are accurate for me. Must be a manual process breaking down somewhere. Garbage in, garbage out I guess.

You can certainly do that and I'm sure there are some that do, but they're generally pretty good about getting your bounces before you expire. Aside from that, at least on the 330, they're all pretty good about getting everyone their landings. The captain generally decides who gets the landings, and more often than not, they check everyone's currencies to see who needs them the most. My last 3 day before this madness, the captain gave both the landings to us FOs because he was good. Lots of guys avoid going to ATL at all costs so they don't like going non-current.
Can they turn down the landing? That would defeat the purpose of senior guys bidding FB/FC.

What I've found is that on a typical three day international trip to Europe or South America, the Captain takes the leg out of the US, and one of the FOs brings it back, generally who needs the landing the most.

We don't do any of that "bidding" a specific position here - yes, there are separate trips for the second FO, but it does not come into consideration of who's flying. The extra FO position doesn't go senior or junior, it just "is". Landings are determined by who needs one, and Captain preference. Some Captains don't care if one or both of the FOs need a landing, but they are the 5% of guys that are pains anyway.
