Soft top for me because it just feels more open like a go kart. Lots of folks love the RF tho. Lots of opinions on the miata forum: https://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=721113

Yeah I’m having trouble deciding. I test drove the RF and had a blast and living in Texas every ST Miata I see in the heat of summer has their roof up anyway. If I lived in California or up North, I would be all over the ST but in Texas or Arizona it seems like the opinions are more split on RF vs ST.

Get a baerly used C7 still under warranty for less than a new RF. Hits all the same marks: 50/50 weight distribution, manual, comparable mileage, better ride if you get the magnehetorical shocks, targa top, and 250 more hp.

First I believe RF’s with options are closer to $40k then to $30k.

That’s an example at a dealer. You would be totally below that by at least 10% to 20%. Manuals will be a little harder to find but just set up some search alerts. The number of used ones for sale will increase dramatically after Labor Day and as C8 production catches up. Best deals will be on ones near the end of the original warranty but an extended from a reputable outfit are pretty reasonable. Most run out of warranty on years and not miles.

The new soft top is amazing. One handed operation and you can get it down in a second. I got the RF, but that was because it is a daily driver AND I really liked the look of it. Downside is extra weight and even with the top down, the rear buttresses prevent you from getting the full top down experience.
Test drive both and see which one makes you happier. Can't really make a wrong choice.
