Normal ops it is not used.
Stop being pedantic. You knew what I was referring to at the outset.

Yup. It's all in FAR Part 60. that deals with all the various levels of simulators (from CPTs to Level D) and the certification requirements for each. It is some really dry reading, but it is PDF so you can search. Of course the FAA can certify what they want. So there is always a "waiver" or something involved.

It's a big deal if I can't hear what you are saying. It is a big deal if we can't understand one another in the box with masks on. The airplane I'm on does not have intercom. So being able to clearly and effectively communicate and understand what the other pilot is saying is important.
No intercom on my fleet.
Turning up the volume?? That won't work. Just add more noise when we are trying to talk to one another. "V/S +200, cancel VNAV" WUT?!?! <louder> "V/S +200, cancel VNAV"...'huh, what did you say?" It will go like that.
Ron answered my question with fact, thank you very much for your opinion.
Oh yeah about the sim quiet part. Familiarize yourself with FAR Part 60.
Aural ques in Level D sims MUST accurately reflect those of the aircraft in all regimes of flight. On my fleet, aircraft can get pretty loud like 80dB+, so they are not "quiet".

2016-2018 on the -88
Never used the p2p intercom on the -88 or the ER. -88 is gone anyway. Of course we used to hit CRZ on the TMP in the descent check that would eliminate the throttle burst at low altitude, they did away with that only to come back to it again, so yeah things change I guess
No one I have flown with in 2 years on the ER has used it in normal ops. A LCP would probably have something to say about the crew who did on your JS. They don't teach it on OE or TOE. Or support on Line Checks. Or in IQ, CQ. You had an outlier crew using the p2p intercom I'm afraid.
This has degenerated into absurdity anyway.
Rico gave me my answer.

Also, had CQ in Sept. and we wore masks in the training center, took them off in the briefing room, on again in the halls, and off during the actual sim. So no big deal.

IDGAS about hallways, buildings break rooms whatever. Just wanted to know what we were actually doing in the box.
SO.... all opinions aside. Thank you for validating what Ron told me already.

You're being a pedantic. You knew what I meant re: intercom from the outset.
FAR 60 is very specific. Yeah sure, turn down the noise, all instructors do. Still, the box must be certified at that actual dB level, Can't fight the FAA. dude.
To the other tool OP about intercom use. Sure, come on over to the ER. Convince the CLCP and the Fleet manager to use it on headsets. See how well it works. Like it has NEVER been tried. Jesus, get over yourself.
