Being junior might suck.

Being junior in NY probably will suck.

Being junior in NY and a commuter will always suck.

I sit reserve and I get it, it stinks when you get called to work. But, let’s be honest, you’re being paid to be available for the company to use you. If they exercise that right I don’t see what the issue is.

I'm only "junior" do to our manning fiasco.

We have a large amount NQAT in my BES. Not UNA, not unaffected. They are NQAT sitting at home collecting ALV-2 because for whatever reason training can't seem to get them 3 TO and landings in the sim.

Spare me your drivel and go read Vyperpilots original post - again.

Vyperpilot is spot on. Manning is very tight right now and won't get better for the summer.

Vyperpilots post was about the 84 hr ALV which has more to do with the TLV window than pilot manning.

Yes, there might be a few categories that are tightly manned but that’s always been the case. Your category has more than a few days with blue reserve coverage and not a ton of green slips going out so I’d say yours isn’t one of them. How many are NQAT? And how do you get that info?

Not to split hairs, but it’s full ALV, which in some categories next month is 84 hours. Sorry, man.

Not sure what category he’s referring to but I would say that would be one I would call tightly manned. As I said in a earlier post, all but 5 BES categories got an extra reserve day in Mar. That tells me we are not currently running to tight.

As a side note, when on reserve in super tight categories rolling thunder is the way to go. Same amount (or less) days worked and twice the pay.

I think he’s saying that when you are NQAT you get the full ALV, not ALV-2.

This. And its going to be very hard to get any significant QOL gains because the rush they got when they "found" 800+ pilots worth of slack in the system (by absolutely trashing the pairings) is likely going to be the hardest thing to change in section 6. Like 7.5 saying he'd "take a strike" to stop jumpseating, this is an issue that, while economic to a large extent, has transcended money and almost became a deeply embedded emotional and cultural foundation.

Even with the 88/90 gone, the 220 will continue to expand and be used less and less on "niche" routes percentage wide, and more and more plugged into marketing's overarching philosophy. Every flight to every city must be from a different plane or from a different base. The end result: pairings will continue to be absolutely trashed, ergo trips will continue to be degraded. More early reports and late releases, constant equipment swaps (long sits as well as even when the turn time is less than the one brought in because FA "kitting" is many multipiles greater than just pilot or even full kitting) tons of short overnights and early wakeups and high leg count days as much as possible.

Commuting to reserve will go from bad to worse (one flight PS notwithstanding, which hopefully becomes permanent) and even many of the "good deal" home reserve lifestyles will see significant changes. Who knows how long section 6 will take, or how much work rule QOL gains are going to come out of it.

As others mentioned, rolling thunder quickly goes from a money maker to a QOL saver. Banked PB days as well as using some (or even all) of the extra pay to drop days paired with a little bidding stratedgery can result in many months during the year with far more time at home (even for commuters) than simply "holding a line". You have to pay the piper a little to get it started though, and some will choose an entire year of pain for no additional pay over the psychology involved to get it set up properly. Their loss your gain.

Whew, to continue things on a happy note, 73N bid packet is for the most part, fantastic. If you're senior, no more than 2 legs a day unless by choice
