Howdy, if I were offered a class date in early January, but had an important family trip at the end of the month --
Would it be imprudent to ask for a class date beginning early February instead? I've also seen that the break between end of indoc and IQ training can be one week to several weeks. I know it varies based on aircraft type but what have the gaps been lately, and does it make just as much sense to accept the early Jan date, finish by mid Jan and hope for a 2-3 week delay? At what point do you receive the training schedule for when you'll begin after Indoc (as in, do they say "welcome to Delta, come back in 3 weeks" or is it more of a 48-hr notice type of thing?)

Thank you!

You’ll begin Indoc on the class date they offered. At this stage of hiring I would push through and make de training your first priority.

But everyone is different and I would also understand if you want to do the family trip.

After you get your class date you'll receive a Google form asking for some information, and included in that they ask for conflicts (wedding, birth of child, etc.) from class start out to three months later. No idea how flexible they are in trying to accomodate - I'm sure it depends on aircraft type and how important the event is; maybe others can chime in with successes and failures.

not me personally but one that I know of, Birth of a child.

from what I was told he disclosed his wife was 30 something weeks pregnant. They had made the decision he would start indoc since his week off was when she was due. He was allowed to have his phone on in class in case she called. She went into labor during class and he was booked confirmed on the next flight home. He just rejoined indoc with the next class, picking up where he left off.

when I went through they definitely made it clear that they wanted your undivided attention for 90 days after DOH. They absolutely were willing to work with you for something like the birth of a child or on the worse side a death in the family. But for a vacation almost 100% chance they will just tell you to push your start date or plan on not having that time off.

you should get your training schedule during indoc, but you don’t get to bid on it and once you get it it would take some pretty big influence to get it changed

Do they not allow you to defer 1 (one) class date anymore, no questions asked? Of course, these days, that only buys you a week.

Yep I believe that's still an option.

I think they still let you defer. My point is, that seniority is everything and we are not going to keep hiring 200 a month forever. I think explosive hiring will slow down sometime next year.

…be up front and take as early of a class as you can. I think there are 3 separate times that they ask for limfacs. If they don’t like it, let them move your class. If you didn’t know, we don’t get vacation the first year, so just use the tools they provide, they’re pretty accommodating.
