New new tails, or previously announced new tails (Lion 7-9's and LatAm 350's)?

No, that's not how my post was supposed to come across.

I fully understand what used to be, and what is.

The transition from DC-8/707 to A350/B787 was decades of individual safety enhancements.

Why shouldn't every airliner have something as simple as a hot mic to provide clear communication while wearing a headset that reduces background noise, for instance?

Why not have the best possible multi-scan radar retrofit into older airplanes that have years of life left?

Just because someone enjoys using modern technology in an airplane today doesn't mean they are spoiled when they compare what is available now and what is still lacking in various airplanes, for no reason other than cost.

I dunno. Why shouldn't every airliner have the most fuel efficient engines?

I get your point though. But you know the answer.

The one whine that really cracks me up though is avionics. Who GAS whether ot not it has glass? When I went from the 767 to the A350, I thought... "Man this is really cool. But is it really 'better'?" And I couldn't honestly say 'yes it is'. Because I have flown the 767 around the world and it does a fine job. Technology for technology's sake is amusing to me.

737:

Pros:
+ Fun to handfly, Boeing engineers believed in hydraulics, Douglas engineers thought is was witchcraft.
+ Very few MEL's. (Highest dispatch rate at Delta right now.)
+ 777 screens with excellent external SA.
+ Can cool down a cabin in August in no time, nothing like ice crystal icing -- in the flight deck on the hottest day of the year.
+ Hands down the best narrowbody bid packages.

Cons:
- OMG, I have to flip a few more switches on the overhead. I have to look for lights to see what's wrong. How will I recover from the trauma? -- I know, on a beach on a 24-hr all inclusive.

I agree with all of that except the bolded portion. The 900 is arguably the worst cabin experience deadheading in the mainline fleet, and the airflow issues are a huge part of it. I know it has the newer IFE and everything, but the cramped seats, low airflow, and a long taxi on a hot summer day makes for a painful experience. The cockpit does keep nice and cool, though.

The key word being in my quote being Flight Deck.

FWIW I do my part. I keep the packs full cold whenever the airplane is on the ground in the summer. (From gate to After Takeoff and again from Landing Checklist to shutdown.)

He's from the past, a world of vectors until receiving, and discretionary descents. Point the jet in the vicinity and ATC will kindly nudge you when they want more precision.

The airplane is redesigned systems on top of redesigned systems on top of 1950s tech stretched to infinity and beyond. But it gets the job done. The job being paycheck efficiency. I'm happy to fly it, but then again, I'm happy to fly anything designed and built prior to 1950 too so my judgement could be suspect.

Beautifully stated.

Who GAS if it has glass? Virtually every pilot except for the ones who still carry a flip phone.
