Why shouldn't every airliner have something as simple as a hot mic to provide clear communication while wearing a headset that reduces background noise, for instance?

737:
Pros: + Fun to handfly, Boeing engineers believed in hydraulics, Douglas engineers thought is was witchcraft. + Very few MEL's. (Highest dispatch rate at Delta right now.) + 777 screens with excellent external SA. + Can cool down a cabin in August in no time, nothing like ice crystal icing -- in the flight deck on the hottest day of the year. + Hands down the best narrowbody bid packages. Cons: - OMG, I have to flip a few more switches on the overhead. I have to look for lights to see what's wrong. How will I recover from the trauma? -- I know, on a beach on a 24-hr all inclusive. I’ll add a few cons: The recall system…doesn’t work correctly more than half of the time. Absolutely a 1960’s design. Loud…but correctable with a $1000.00 headset Frost on the top of the wing…yes we need sprayed when no one else does. Climate control is garbage unless it’s working correctly, which has been better lately…Tec Ops maybe. 900 needs more landing techniques compared with any other aircraft I’ve flown..you would rather fly 10 fast than 1 knot slow. Maybe that’s why we get a report with all aspects of available data for every takeoff and landing. Forward galley is smaller than a regional jet. Flight deck is smaller than a regional jet for that matter. FO need to store bag in forward closet, where FAs stack their stuff on yours. In a 900 FO needs to swim upstream to mid cabin order to retrieve bag. Toilet seat won’t stay up…saw someone write that up the other day! Must be their “thing” but made me laugh. Every one of these is compared to other aircraft in general. When compared directly to a 320, the list could be much larger. |

The plane has some good traits but let’s be honest about the @“itty ones.

I agree with all of that except the bolded portion. The 900 is arguably the worst cabin experience deadheading in the mainline fleet, and the airflow issues are a huge part of it. I know it has the newer IFE and everything, but the cramped seats, low airflow, and a long taxi on a hot summer day makes for a painful experience. The cockpit does keep nice and cool, though.

David Clark Pro X is most commonly used headset. $750 Frost on top of the wing...havent encountered frost from cold soaked fuel yet but if it's within a certain area marked on the wing we're good to go no deice Climate control works fine. Set AAA or ATT and adjust from there. 900 has one technique... Don't land below Vref. Forward galley? We're not FAs FO bag situation is a major pain on the 900. Especially when your bag is buried behind all the FAs. 800 is not bad. Similar to 717/88. I flew the CRJ at the regionals. 737 cockpit is substantially bigger. Toilet seat won't stay up... Really? FOs bag goes in overhead in 900. Ignore the closet.

Recall System... It is an outdated pain but the positive is no nuisance messages that need to be cleared. High dispatch reliability.

Every C-152 I ever rented had a VOX intercom - superior to hot mic (set to hot mic if that’s what you prefer). I’ll never understand why 121 jets aren’t configured with this option, or at least none I’ve ever flown. If I were king for a day, I might require their installation.
