Looking for insight on what life at the bottom of these airframes will look like in Spring 2022??
Does anyone bring a car to NY? Is it best to get a crash pad closer to JFK or LGA? Is parking at the airports possible? Do these airframes work out of EWR?
Is the flying split between JFK/LGA?? or more from one of those?
Anything you might care to share with me and the other new NY FO's greatly appreciated

Some insight to my situation:
Will be commuting to NYC
Have a possible housing option in Nassau County, closer to JFK than LGA.......is this a good location to cover on RES?
Have an airport car I can bring and leave.......if a good idea?

Will continue to mine the threads.......thought this might be a good question in light of lots of us headed to NYC......THANKS!!
No LGA flying on the ER - right now. Occasional charter into or out of EWR.

Commuting sucks, I hate it (I have to do it for health care reasons of a family member). Regardless, I would never live in New York or the surrounding areas. Most of the NYC base are commuters so you are not alone.

Fortunately positive space has made commuting way less stressful. Having a decent housing option near by is clutch and you are fortunate. Def get an airport car from out there in Nassau County. I have relatives in Smithtown, I sometimes stay with them if I have a long back to back stint of trips/reserve. I do have a crashpad as well. Probably moot for you as your option seems very fine. Should not be an issue. We have several pilots on the fleet that live way out on the island. No issues.

Hardly any commutable trips anymore. I forgot the percentage, maybe 20% commutable? When we talk commutablity we look at both ends, or just front end, or just the back end of the trip. When I say 20% commutable that implies both ends are commutable. Majority of our trips are commutable on only one end or not at all.

Lots of redeyes west to east coast (which I don't mind since they are commutable trips , and the last leg). Int'l is commutable but you won't be senior enough to hold what little we have left. Preponderance of 7ER " Int'l" is more like MEX, SJU, BOG, GUA, SXM, SJD, stuff like that. We have MAD, BAC, ACC, VCE, LIS, DUB, KEF, GLA, DBV , HNL. OGG that appear and reappear in the bid pack. We do a lot of transcons. Lot of redeyes as well. When you get your login credentials for Dlnet, go take a look at the bid pack for NYC7ERB. Look back a few months as well.

We don't do a lot of FL turns like ATL does. Those can be very demanding in the summertime. 4 legs a day back and forth either ATL-some place in FL or DTW - some place in FL. Wash rinse repeat. Used to have bases in DTW, MSP and SLC. They closed those down, but those pairings still remain. So you tend to touch one or 2 or those every rotation it seems. The planes left, but the trips did not.

There's also the charter aspect. We have dedicated jets for the NBA. Sometimes those can be fun, most of the time not. I bid avoid charters. They tend to go pretty junior or reserve for most part.

Our acquisition of 330s has signaled the death knell for majority of Int'l flying on the ER. Not jabbing the 330, good plane and our customers love it. One thing to keep in mind. The 7ER has become the "Catch-all" fleet. The 76 is unique airplane. Has good legs, holds decent amount of cargo AND less pax than the 330. So network will drop them in some off season stuff or to test a new market. If demand is good, they upgauge to a 330. Otherwise it will stay 76 or just go away. Network works in mysterious, yet profitable ways. The 75 can be plugged into any NB route structure and pretty much is being used that way right now.

The jet is awesome. You will absolutely love flying both the 75 and 76. Very capable airplanes and they will never let you down.

So flying Spring 2022 NYC7ER? Who knows? Network does or does not! Look ahead to the bid packages when you get your login credentials. If I were to wager a guess mostly transcons. Some island flying. Int'l - who knows? Depends on what the rest of the world decides it wants to do vis-a-vis COVID. Out of NY and as we move forward, I would say most Int'l is gong to be done on the 330.

7ER is good flying still. Great base, good crews. I really enjoy it. I was in ATL for awhile but I chose to commute to NYC. I've made some great friends up there. YMMV.

Any word on how long for IOE? I’ve heard rumors of some people waiting 6 months without touching an airplanes since their LOE.

30-60 days between OE and TOE is what I’ve heard recently. Haven’t heard any 6+ stuff happening lately. YMMV.

Does completing OE and waiting on TOE mean you can fly without going feet wet, or are you disqualified in the penalty box?

Not allowed to fly domestic without a LCA until your TOE is complete.

Not sure the exact reasoning, but best explanation I’ve heard is this goes back to when DL combined 75 domestic and international flying and made some agreement with the FAA concerning TOE. Or we are just shooting ourselves in the foot again. Guess ultimately it doesn’t matter.

Only bad if you were displaced from another position that paid $50/hr more and averaged 84 hours a month. Then it kinda sucks. But not germane to this thread so, yes…Step 3: Profit!

Displacement never fun. But at 5 weeks away from being a newby it's all good. Moving with wife and kids from abroad so it would be good to be home more to get them settled in. 7ER sounds like a winner from reading this thread. (Unless your SSN is higher than mine. Then it sucks. Bid the 220)
