Contract 2022
#871
If that thing that happened that we don’t discuss here which resulted in UNAs and a huge slowdown in flying due to training churn taught me anything, it’s that my family can live/save for retirement with much less, time is your greatest asset and is finite, and even though G$ May buy you nice toys, free time is infinitely more valuable….particularly as you age.
I’d imagine a smaller pool of pilots are chasing G$. They’ll burn out, eventually. Or not, their choice. I’m glad someone likes to do it and it’s not forced.
“Work a G$” to get around the pay cut we’ve been taking due to inflation and no new contract is not acceptable. That’s happily lobbying to work more for less pay.

Also, mil pilots are getting out in droves, so that comparison doesn’t even work anyway

If a pilot is spending your time on APC, a pilot has got time. All that yapping about family time but still got plenty of time to be on social media complaining about earnings power. Take all that typing time and one can pick up several Greenies

Yes, people have to work to provide for their families. Military works extremely hard, make huge sacrifices, and should be honored for their services.
You say that the hardest working pilot has "plenty of time for family". Could you please explain this generalization to the pilot whose wife, husband, son, or daughter is fighting a terminal illness at home? What would you guess is more important to them? An ARCOS call at 3 am or spending time with his/her family that now has become finite? Is inflation affecting them and do they have the right to voice their concern? What would you tell this pilot if they were flying with you? I highly doubt you would mention they should just pick up a few GS to mitigate the negative effects of inflation.
I know for sure you never thought about this scenario because most of us are living young healthy and happy lives, but situational awareness is very important I think when generalizing among the 14000 pilot families at Delta. To suggest that 1. Inflation is not an issue to families because pilots can pick up GS in lieu of QOL, and spending time at home, and 2. To double down saying "even the hardest working pilot has plenty of time at home", suggest that you may need a more macro level view of what's really important in life. Just something to think about, that's all.

Could you please explain this generalization to the pilot whose wife, husband, son, or daughter is fighting a terminal illness at home? What would you guess is more important to them? An ARCOS call at 3 am or spending priceless time with his/her family after the brutal realization that life and time is finite. Is inflation affecting them and do they have the right to voice their concern? What would you tell this pilot if you were working together? Let me take a wild guess...I highly doubt you would mention they should just pick up a few GS to mitigate the negative effects of inflation.

It appears I failed at making my point. Sorry my bad.

Staffing right now is indeed being covered by Greenslips and apparently plenty of pilots have decided that their off days are worth it. I gave my perspective that it's hard to pass up. What's ironic is the anti GS folks are eager to give their perspective about spending their days off with family but they always seem to have plenty of time to tell other people how to spend their precious time, or post pics about how many GS calls they got and they didn't pick any up

A 5 day GS for me means working and being away from home at least 13 of 15 days. Might as well be deployed. Not to mention the unhealthy lifestyle with our current rotations of no excercise, long duty days, and a layover barely long enough to get food before going to sleep.
