Default Pax: no mask, exposes himself, throws can

Anyone think alcohol was involved?

Dublin to New York City, refused to wear a mask. When food was served he dropped his pants and mooned the other pax. Later he threw a can that struck another pax.

One thing they mention is that he "allegedly became belligerent when confronted by the pilot". I thought pilots were prohibited from leaving the flight deck during a pax disturbance?

Think he left Ireland due to lack of Walmart. Maybe the pilot from the rest quarters?

CAPT was on rest break and tried to resolve the situation.

Why do crew escalate mask issues at 30k ft??? D-U-M dumb. Just let it go, report a seat number to the company if you feel you must, and let it go…..

have to draw the line at throwing stuff, but would it have happened if crew just let it go???

He mooned the cabin. Is that because someone asked him to put on a mask? It isn't hard to behave.

i guess my point was, don’t escalate it at 30k ft. There are options at gate or any time on the ground. 30k ft is not the place to escalate it. Once upon a time we used to teach how to de-escalate.

How do you know the crew escalated it? Should they completely ignore any bad behavior airborne? What we really need to do is stop peddling intoxicants to people crammed into a metal tube for hours at a time. People can wait to get their high after the flight.

It may come to that. But do you remember years ago, I think first time Delta made 1 billion profit? We sold 1 Billion in liquor and headsets and change fees? Flew the pax basically for free , only made the profit on ancillary fees.

youre right, I don’t know the crew escalated it. It was an assumption based on what I’ve seen on the line over the last two years.

ignore ANY bad behavior airborne? Nope, and not what I said. Ignore a mask violation and just report it to company via acars, skypro, redcoat, take your pick of conflict resolution team members? Maybe contact dispatch for guidance and calmer more reasonable thinking folks trained in that exact situation? Yeah, lots of better options.

The rule is, masks are to be worn. If the guy takes it off when they get airborne and refuses to even pretend to wear it, what are they supposed to do? Selective enforcement of rules destroys what ever credibility they had in the first place. It isn't that far removed from passengers self-upgrading.
