Lowering ALV/TLV would have a bigger impact on number of GSs because it’s taking less hours to hit the ALV meaning more trips unbid.

less white slipping to make the trigger would necessarily increase the number of green slips given the same staffing

The company agreed to lower the TLV and the GS Trigger:

1. Green Slip Trigger

The permanent change in the Green Slip (GS) trigger becomes effective at the beginning of the December 2020 bid period. The GS trigger will change to the lesser of 72 hours or ALV minus five (5).

2. The permanent reduction to the TLV (to 73-78 hours) will become effective with the first bid period after the termination of the temporary TLV.

With the reduction of the TLV it's easier to get 67 hr lines now, which yields a pilot 16,17,18 days off. Pre LOA if that pilot with a 67 hr line picked up a GS they would later have to pick up a WS to reach the trigger at the lesser of the ALV or 75 hrs in order to get full pay for the trip.

I was surprised the company agreed to these staffing concessions especially after giving so many VEOPs. Basically gave the pilots more time off and easier access to premium pay for working extra. Any decent recovery in demand would result in a blood bath for staffing, and there is nothing(aside from Nuclear War) that will alleviate the situation for the foreseeable future. What can a pilot do? Greenslip to your heart's desire or enjoy your time off if you don't want to work extra, and stop the operation and call in fatigued if the rotation is too tiring.

With the company hiring 200 pilots a month you would never make a case they were trying to pressure us into a contract via reduced staffing.

Hiring is only one side of the equation though.

Flt Ops needs to outrank marketing to prevent things from "running this hot".

I agree with all above. But a lower trigger doesn’t impact the overall number given out. GS is a function of staffing. As you clearly showed, the lower TLV was the difference. The company has X number of trips to fill and Y number pilots. If Y was equal to X, no green slips. Even if the trigger was 0. But due to multiple poor decisions in staffing we are going to see many more GSs….unless we freak out again.

If only there was…like…a leadership position somewhere above these departments to set safe and effective priorities and eliminate tribal in-fighting!?

IMHO it seems like this dangerous fatiguing rotation situation we’ve found ourselves in can only be resolved by direction from above. Until EB recognizes the urgent need to intervene and reset safety above all else, we run the risk of a disastrous, costly, and wholly unnecessary hull loss.

Just imagine such an event following our picketing activity…it could mark the end of Delta as we know it. In hindsight, everyone will ask why we felt obligated to chase every last revenue dollar and fill every last seat during spring break. I personally won’t have a good answer.

Just decided to start reading “Flying the Line” all over again. Quick recap, nothing has changed. Management is not pilots. The CEO is not a pilot. Safety will always be sold as #1 but come in a quiet second to profits and stock holders.

The erosion of QOL and increase in fatiguing rotations reads like the sequel to Downfall. Delta is run by metric loving bean counters, compensated by stock options, who are gambling the bill won't come due on their watch. My theory is that EB is making one final push to cash in before bailing out.

Nailed it. I think Anderson was asked to leave. He had us down to $7B in debt (outside pensions) and we would have continued to pay cash as we updated our fleet. Stock burn-backs were a little too far down Anderson's road to keep the board happy. I sometimes feel that when the pandemic hit, Ed was 60% focused on pee-ing off the pilots and 40% focused on doing what is best for the company. Things like flying empty hulls around on redeyes left one wondering. MOAD, VEOP, SIL cancel, UNA, 1000s lost NQAT for a year+ and we definitely jumped headlong into politics for no real gain. Delta always seems to be in the news keeping the face diaper drama alive and well. The media, Wall St. and other employee groups seem to adore him. I have seen the end of too many printer rolls as the ACARS processes endless reroutes to feel we will ever exit crisis management. Perhaps its UALs decade this time around the business cycle.

Sadly I fell in a few weeks none of this won’t even be a issue with gas the way it is. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Trip7 03-11-2022 03:53 AM

What kind of messaging is this? Are we at war with Greenslips or fatiguing rotations? This comes across as if pilots are forced to work OT.

This would be more appropriate messaging:

"Delta pilots picketed today atlairport to protest tiring schedules that have caused pilots to raise safety concerns and increase fatigue calls"https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...57d7e77bc2.jpg
