Sleeps important, umkay. Just not for pilots. But definitely for decision makers. Important decision makers, like business decision makers, not those making trivial decisions to avoid mashing a couple hundred people into a smoking hole.

I don’t care how good that 2-day greenslip looked in ARCOS. Stop coming to work sick. It’s a d-bag move to come in and sit next your coworker for eight hours sneezing, coughing, blowing your nose and struggling to breathe through your nose. That’s not “allergies”, bud.

So for a new guy to GS…
When I get a callout for a trip that reports 55 minutes ago and departs in 5 minutes, or 30 minutes, or some other number of unrealistic minutes… What’s my obligation or due consideration before I accept something like that. Do I need to be at the airport or nearby or have already sorted out how I’m going to make that work? I’m getting these OOBGS and even normal GS so late in the game that I can’t do it even if I wanted to. If I got the call 3-4 hours ago, I totally would have been able to make it work but I guess they gotta get through so many people before it gets to me. |

If you want it, accept it. When they call to award you the trip, tell them when you can be there. They’ll tell you if it works for them or not. Ask for close in parking too if that helps you out.

When you are awarded a GS the PWA specifies that you are afforded short call response times (23.Q.11.b.) |

Regardless of when the trip was scheduled to depart they have to award you the trip if you are promptly available. That’s loosely defined as 2 hours. If the trip departs sooner than that they will call and ask when you will arrive.
Please show me where there is any reference, loose or not, to short call notice being 2 hours. |
