In upgrade at the Hilton so chatting with some of the new hires. A lot of them got NYC but want another base. Is it “frowned upon” to try to drop an entire NYC schedule on the swap board then OOBWS yourself a Seattle month? Staffing permitting in both bases obviously. Is this a thing that guys do when they can’t get the base they want? Just curious what advice I should give them. I’m not a commuter so don’t know the schemes.

It’s in the contract. And though I personally have a huge distaste for A’s who jump 20-30% in seniority by doing it as their norm, I wouldn’t hold it against a NH who involuntarily got NYC but lives on the opposite coast doing it.
Having said that, I would also make sure they have a bid on this AE to SEA, regardless of posted vacancies.

Frowned upon by whom?

Guess the company is happy with 24-7, any base, short call reserves saving the company paying overtime to pilots who play by the rules.
Meanwhile, CS can not get through coverage because of the OOBWS wanting to see everything on ARCOS (fishing for the f'up) and dumps the trips to Crew Tracking for reroutes. Some OOBWS pick up knowing they can not make pick up time. They'll happily enjoy a meal and maybe catch the next flight if it suits them while hundreds of passengers and their fellow crewmembers wait through a long duty day.

Like calling in sick for the trips one can't drop then immediately calling in well and picking up an OOBWS?

No calling in sick. That’s right the f out. Getting it started all has to do with SWP, and relative reserve req vs reserve avail.
Like I said, it chaps me to see A’s doing it. Though PWA legal, I’d like to see the contract change in that department to keep it from happening. It’s abrogating seniority. But that change will likely never happen.
I also won’t begrudge a NH B from avoiding an involuntary 2-leg commute when he/she can, either.
