Certainly not tactful by that Guy or girl, but it has been customary for CAs to pick up a probationary pilot's meal at least once a trip if not once a day. Not saying you must. When I was a new hire, it was generally less than once a month but I know some guys do like to help.

And just so we are working with the same numbers, due to the NH pay scheme, most new hires are getting way, way less than $100k in their first year.

Anecdotal accounts from the flight attendants suggest that the soybean "patty's" popularity (or lack thereof) is highly regional.

For me, it's always what's left after the first class picked it over, and the rest of the FAs rejected it.

IDK. Always thought beans and tight quarters with strangers was a bad idea.

Same here. Guys bought me a meal or coffee or whatever. I don’t pound beers at work. I buy all the new guys a meal. Not the point. The point is that the relationship between you and I doesn’t extend beyond what I’m being paid to do. This particular guy I didn’t care for. His mentality was that as a new guy his fam would look out for him.

Also—I was a new hire under our old contract and made $91k my first year. These guys can easily do $100k.

As a NH I just expect to pay for my own food and drink, if CA insists on buying then I am very thankful. It's a nice tradition to give back to the new guys but we're equally responsible to be grateful and not feel entitled to it...

Their problem currently is 4-6 months on training pay with the big delays to start sims. Not that that’s an excuse to beg for free food. Should still be able to pull $75k+ even with 6 months in the penalty box.

I don’t care about the company, it’s about empathy and being the one dude in that moment that can provide clarity and make other humans feel just a touch better
This. Have some humanity. Have beef with the company all you want, but have some humanity for the people getting screwed as well.

I agree. It's not a guarantee and no one should ever expect it.

Wouldn't you have to credit over 100 hours a month to break 100k in your first year assuming you finished OE by the end of month 3? I didn't break 100 hours until years later and it certainly wasn't consistent.

Yes, I am aware anyone can get a GS right now but it's not always possible to fly on the days they want you to fly premium.

Impossible meats are popular with the JFK/LAX, SFO and BOS crowds. For obvious reasons.

I love them.

Heck the new hires today would have never survived back in the day , LOL . First year pay in 94’ on the Metroliner was 16 smacks an hour . First year at NW was like 29 smacks an hour . Even adjusted for CPI and inflation it wasn’t much , LOL. Ahh , the good ole days 😂.

Strangers?! I thought we were best friends after the initial briefing.

Anyways, the O2 mask fixes all bean related issues.
