Hundreds of cancellations

Yeah, predicting recessions is a sucker's bet, especially for the layman.
The story about Heathrow was heartening. The stories about debt and inflation in the US say the opposite.
Just another way of saying that airlines "hire until they furlough". I don't think their highly paid MBA's on staff are much better than the average schmuck. (Also see: Fuel hedgers)

Here's to being the best of the worst. PB says we are the best of the pack JAN-JUN. Trophies all around!
*trophy may be exchanged for one pat on the back (virtual, no actual physical contact) **trophy has no actual cash value ***eligibility conditions must be met for actual exchange, see subsequent PWA for details, subject to reinterpretation and results may vary

My personal suspicion: The PSC commuting has had the unintended effect of allowing pilots to call "off", no harm, no foul, when a single flight (no fault of their own) gets cancelled. As long as their flight was supposed to get in 1 minute prior to sign in, they're legal to call in and drop the trip when a hiccup happens.
So drop the trip, then green slip in the carnage created with even minor weather events.
Which is why the PSC (as currently constituted) won't continue.
NO ONE is at fault in this. Everyone is following the contract and the rules. But it's not any way to run an airline. These "alerts" are basically begging commuting pilots to show up early (unpaid) for their assigned trips.

The bid month including Thanksgiving could be the first month that thousands of employees will be space-available commuting for their first time…in a network that will likely still be a mess riddled with cancellations and significant delays. I’m told there might even be weather in November. I forward-thinking management team would extend PSC through the holidays. From what I’ve seen though, our “leadership” can’t make many intelligent business decisions that strengthen our operation for the long term. Personally, I’m recommending friends and family entertain holiday plans that don’t involve airline travel this fall and winter.
