Anyone know what the real position of the MEC is on this "vaccine freedom" thing?
Seems most want to move on, but we've got some who insist it is the single issue no vote for the entire MEC.
I do not recall any polling on it. Seems pretty far outside scope, pay, working conditions, retirement.

My personal opinion, for whatever you want to take it for… I think full retro is a pipe dream. There should be some reasonableness from both sides about exactly what Covid was… A black swan that made negotiating a contract and trying to plan for the future of the operation nearly impossible. Yes. I do understand the importance of retro. I just don’t see retro back to the contract’s amendable date as being realistic.
That being said I don’t think we’ll see a contract anytime soon. The economy is on a steady pace heading straight for a recession, the severity and length of which is still tbd. If you were in management shoes would you be willing to commit to big gains for your most expensive labor group at a time when the future is still uncertain? No. You drag it out until the recession hits and the bargaining environment is more favorable to you.
I’ll be pleasantly surprised if I’m wrong. I hope I’m wrong.

I don’t like setting the precedent of a Covid carve out but I could easily see this being a sticking point if the airlines were receiving funds to payroll. I’m a realist. We were all quasi nationalized for a period of time, that’s just the reality.

The company slow-rolled it and provided incentives for those who wanted the vaccine.
There are a few reasons the company would have to push back hard against this vaccine freedom thing. (1) if the government requires it, the company has to comply (2) pilots used their unvaccinated status to ninja bid away from places they do not want to go (but bid for anyway in hopes of getting bought off) and forcing other pilots to fly those trips (3) the health & safety of their employees.
Frankly, it is my personal opinion that the Delta MEC ended up on exactly the wrong end of this issue. If we had one person die from crime on an overnight there would be outrage. The company does not release these numbers, but at least 6 died from COVID. ALPA has always been about safety, until now.
I am very glad we have the means and methods to treat the new virus. Good to have it in the rear view. It does not need to hold up our PWA.

Anything other than full retro rewards future stalling.
