These kinds of deals are way the airlines spend $$$millions annually greasing the skids of DC.
If we can't make this route work with a 767 then I doubt anybody will. Haneda access could work at a hub but nowhere else. With KAL and Asiana, ICN is our Asia hub. HND will never be what NRT was.

A350 has had a resurgence this year, certainly makes negotiating harder. Probably had a better shot at a good deal last year if they went and signed on the dotted line when first rumored.

Delta owns roughly 10% of AF/KL and (at least used to?) have a seat on their board. Fingers crossed they can work a “friends and family referral code” on A351s.

With all the latest A350 orders does this put Boeing back into the picture ie B787-10 & B777x?

I believe the 787-10 has a very good shot of joining our fleet one of these days. When the time comes, it would seem an optimal replacement for our A333s. Perhaps the company is waiting for the MTOW increase first. I personally believe the 787-10 is a matter of when, not if. As far as the 777X, I'd say highly doubtful. DL doesn't seem to like big, long haul wide bodies and that thing is huge. It's a wonder they have publicly admitted to wanting the A351 and look how long thats taking. The whales were an inherited exception that came from the merger but even they were not replaced with anything close to their size.

not sure they had a deal last year. I suspect they had to started negotiations to acquire the Qatar 350s during their spat with Airbus. Once that was settled those planes were no longer an option.

The 787 continues to be a hot seller as well. Ed has said before that the most important consideration when placing an order is, unsurprisingly, price. And Delta likes paying peanuts for planes. Mgt seems unfazed by the potential delivery timeline of any potential order negatively affecting us by multiple airlines placing significant orders for the exact aircraft we claim to be looking at. I wouldn't put it past them to continue flying the 7ER fleet for another decade and do the same with the 330 fleet if they dont get the price they want.

No. This order doesn’t start until 2026 for AF/KL, and our book takes us through 2025, so it’s still possible to roll right into the next order/delivery sequence.

With a growing population of international travelers, larger airplanes start to make sense. We are flying 339 seat airplanes we used to serve with 181 seats.

Isn't that the current plan anyway?

I'm telling you Boeing diehards... once you fly a long haul flight without having to sit sideways to eat your meals you will never again want to fly anything with a yoke again. I was a NeverBus guy... until I wasn't.
