I think there may have been a rumor about that as well. Premium seats are in demand. It could also have the effect of allowing them to eek some extra performance out of the 339s by lowering the weight like they're doing with the incoming 350s.

It's just to keep the 767 in production past 2027 for US Air Force and Cargo companies due to emissions

I don't know diddly squat about the economics of the A350.

Been here long enough to know that pre RA, long haul wide bodies were being used to haul wider bodies from ATL to FL, which apparently was a ridiculous use of the airframe(?).

I can't help but notice that there are 350s currently being used for domestic travel at Delta.

Do more 350s for 3 hour flights even make sense?

What you are noticing is probably repositioning flights rather than purposeful utilization of the 350 purely for domestic flying. So, in answer to your question...no that wouldn't make sense. More 350s are (allegedly) being ordered for international growth.

It’s seems A350s do select domestic routes during the winter when European capacity is reduced.

The MAX 10 doesn't have the the range of the 321NEO but has more range than the 737-900. Network has previously stated the MAX 10 will mainly be deployed on longer stage lengths out of ATL, DTW and MSP. I expect West Coast to Hawaii flying and BOS transcons to be 321NEO specialities. I doubt there will be any NEO trans Atlantic flying unless Delta orders the 321XLR. All the other longer non SAQ stage lengths will likely be a mix of MAX 10 and 321NEO depending on how network wants to stage fleets for operational efficiency.

Delta once had 40 L1011's configured with 302 seats flying domestic. The 767-400 was purchased as a domestic replacement for the L1011's.

Man that's going to be ugly, the flying this winter is thin enough on the 767, loosing ten of them will take a bite out of the routes. Expect lots of movement off that fleet, or finally upgrades for some.

We used to do that was it was a fun trip, the 757 did lots of other stuff too, LEMG (Maliga) DSS, CDG out of smaller cities.

It was tough long legs though not really set up for 3 man.
