you can layover at home without going home …. It’s still quite nice.

This is so true. I only bid at home layovers if they are longer. The 12 hrs at home is way less restful.

This is yet another 717 bonus. Concourse C in ATL, pretty much headquarters for the 717, has 2/4 of the Starbucks in the airport. C Also has God’s Chicken. Since everything goes through ATL, there is always time for a coffee.
I’m referring to the post deice spray orange window drip (I’ve heard stream as well) flavoring my coffee.

I do fortify/test/clean out my digestive system with the occasional airplane coffee though.

That was an early lesson learned on the 717 for sure.

To me, deadheads to/from home at beginning or end of trip are better than layovers at home.

Well, obviously. Not a lot of those for any location though…

Hello, new guy here waiting on a class date and hoping yall could offer some input on the best choice for someone who lives in CLT.
I've been reading up and down the forums trying to decide how to rank my choices for a drop and I have a couple questions about choosing the 717 and living in CLT. Thankfully I was blessed with a very high social.

First off, would you choose atl or dtw as the base? Atl is a 4.5hr drive for me but it seems folks say dtw is better seniority.
And is it fairly common to get a decent amount of clt overnights or do people seek it out over the villes and burg overnights?

Also, does atl or dtw have more clt overnights or is it a wash? I know atlanta has more flights to clt but I imagine you flow through the bases anyways on trips.

I'm just trying to decide if for qol is it better to try for the 717 due to possible clt overnights or just go for 7er or 320? Essentially I'm tied to clt for 5 more years.

Thanks in advance

At this snapshot in time, ATL is your best bet for CLT layovers. But the general rule is not to bid based solely on current layovers. Network could make it all 737s tomorrow. There are good things about the 717, some bad too. Just make sure you’d be okay with staying on the fleet if the overnights stopped.

I live in SC and I've done both ATL717 and DTW717. At this point in time if I lived in CLT I would definitely bid the 717, probably in DTW. With the rumored move toward more regular AE bids you could just get on the airplane and then if you aren't happy with the base you're in you could transfer to the other and try it out too.

One data point: DTW July bid package has 640 trips. 120 of them have CLT overnights. ATL has 912 trips with 134 having CLT overnights. Either one gives you a lot of options.

There are a lot more commuters going to ATL than DTW, so less competition for the jumpseat in DTW.

Probably better seniority in DTW.

Plus being ATL based requires you to fly in and out of ATL more --> DTW the clear winner here!
