Of course he doesn’t have the power to do that, but I’m sure you know that.

Why ARE we paying dues on a negotiated retirement benefit? We weren't, until DALPA said we had to in 2019. How easy is it to go back to we weren't?

You know what they say about assuming, right? I don't know anything about how ALPA policy works. But it seems like they are the ones that control their dues checkoff process and what it applies to and how much it is. Seems like they are the ones that would be the one to change it. And since he's the man in change now, seems like he could start that process.

MEC Alert 19-14, dated June 26, 2019:

"ALPA National informed the Delta MEC of a change in interpretation to ALPA’s Constitution & Bylaws (C&BL) subjecting DPSP Cash received by pilots, whose earnings had exceeded the IRS 401(a)(17) limit ... to dues."

Edit: Maybe now is the time to push for a reinterpretation of the bylaws, or (*gasp*) amend them.

Ya, that iss a BS "re-interpretation." Oh hey, we just found another source of easy income for the association, so let's just change the interpretation after the fact...

I don't think we know the exact fund, but it seem to be LIRIX - https://www.blackrock.com/us/individ...rtinst-cl-fund with an expense ratio of 0.18%

Also, I got the impression it can be changed by the administrator for the whole group, it's the ratio between bonds and equities that is mostly fixed.

That would require action at the BOD. The Delta MEC has tried multiple times to make the change but was opposed by most of the other carriers.

My understanding is some/most of the other carriers aren't getting spill cash, so this seems like it harms Delta the most.

Exactly. We were the only group getting spill cash and the amounts for being over the income cap (330,000 this year) had gone unnoticed by National as being subject to dues. When they realized we weren't paying dues on monies that would normally require dues, they informed the MEC. I believe the MEC took it to the Executive Board and subsequently to the BOD proposing a change to make those monies exempt from dues. Since we were literally the only group that was in this situation, the other carriers were not inclined to give a special dues exemption that would only apply to Delta pilots. Now if United, FedEx or some other carriers had spill cash, we might have had some success. That wasn't the case.
