I have heard of men that end up with bad reactions from shaving or skin disease/ damage and not able to shave as often . I’m not sure of the individual’s situation. But the no facial hair definitely isn’t because of the O2 Mask as we’ve been told for decades . Obviously we shouldn’t be the guys from ZZTop, but groomed facial hair would seem fine to me . Hopefully this individual can get some relief .

As someone with a “medical background”, I’m actually shocked you’ve never “heard of it”.

Pseudofolliculitis Barbae, affecting a disproportionate number of African Americans, is an example of a medical condition meriting a waiver in another, larger organization with even stricter appearance standards.

tell me this doctor what’s the treatment? A quick journal search says frequent shaving with proper technique improve the affected areas. Improper technique and instruments facilitates the disease.

I kind of thought a medically trained person would know. I provided a medical example not being a medically trained person. Thanks for proving your merits.

fairly “common” waiver in the air force allowing people to not shave. If you think its super easy to clean it up, maybe you should email the air force doctors tell them they are doing it wrong.

Laser Hair Removal
Not to hijack the thread here, but has anyone had laser hair removal on their neck? Or know anyone who has? I try my best to use good shaving practices but the combination of having to shave every other day and wearing a collar for this job leaves my neck constantly red and irritated. Nothing I've tried has worked to stop the irritation I might just have sensitive skin. My theory is if I don't have to consistently shave my neck after laser hair removal, the bumps and irritation will go away.

That would be an excellent "press to test" case for the "by the book" types. However, even if you win, you'll lose, because the Order of the Double Blade would just promptly change the manual anyway.
Even with max duty days, seeing a single 5 O'Clock shadow in a calendar year is a rarity. Whatever the rules are, those who enforce them shave against the grain twice a day because they want to.
